Physical Therapist - Acute Care

The Physical Therapist I job is primarily responsible for the delivery of physical therapy care to the patient population to which she/he is assigned and the recording of that care in the hospital medical record. Responsibilities Patient evaluation and implementation of plan of care, including discharge planning. Ordering equipment required for patient care. Representing the department at rounds and discharge conferences. Scheduling and charging patients. Providing instruction to PT support staff, students, and personnel of other disciplines. Collaborating with a self‑directed team to solve daily clinic problems. Bringing unresolved issues to the departmental manager for assistance and guidance. Possibly supervising Physical Therapist Assistants, Rehab Technicians, students, and volunteers. Rotating through various clinical service areas as needed. Qualifications Licensed (or licensure eligible) by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Physical Therapist. Current license by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Physical Therapist. Current CPR Certification if required by clinic or practice area. New graduate to up to 2 years of work experience as a Physical Therapist. Employee is expected to progress to a Physical Therapist Clinician II level within two years of employment at VCUHS. Graduate of an accredited School of Physical Therapy. Preferred: Master’s or Doctoral Degree from an accredited School of Physical Therapy. Additional Position Requirements Employee is expected to share in weekend and holiday schedule expectations of the department or have a fluctuation of daily work hours from 8AM to 7PM based on patient population needs. May rotate through various clinical service areas. Possibly provide instruction to PT support staff, students, and personnel of other disciplines. Physical Requirements Physical: Lifting 50–100lbs. Activities: Frequent bending, walking (distance), climbing (steps, ladder, other), reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive). Mental/Sensory: Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing legibly, reading, logical thinking. Emotional: Fast‑pace environment, steady pace, able to handle multiple priorities, frequent and intense customer interactions, noisy environment, able to adapt to frequent change.
