Large Loss Property Field Claims Adjuster (San Diego, CA)

Job Summary Lead level role that investigates and maintains highly complex property claims. Determine liability, secure information, review coverages, arrange appraisals, and settle claims. Demonstrate experience to perform all areas of claim adjustment activities with the highest degree of competency and independence. Work in the field handling complex homeowner property claims, preferably located in San Diego, CA, but also open to Orange County, Inland Empire area, or Los Angeles. A fleet vehicle is provided. Report to a Large Loss Senior Manager. Compensation range: $99,000.00 – $163,000.00 (salary, varies by level and location). Relocation support is offered for eligible candidates. Primary Accountabilities Investigate origin and cause of high exposure claims by contacting insureds, claimants, agents, attorneys, contractors, experts, special investigation units, other adjusters, public personnel, etc. Check for prior claims and recognize environmental exposures. Participate in High Damage Reviews (HDR) to address coverage issues and exposure. Handle claims on a good‑faith basis, both 1st‑party and 3rd‑party under multiple policy types and endorsements. Conduct on‑site inspections, evaluate damages, and negotiate with insureds, claimants, attorneys, and public adjusters. Respond to customer inquiries, make appropriate decisions, and close files as needed. Interpret and determine policies, leases, by‑laws, declarations, articles, and contract coverages for assigned losses. Interpret claim history coverages and make independent decisions while recognizing when assistance is needed. Proactively provide all parties with claim process and status updates; answer questions or redirect to other areas. Serve as a mentor and subject‑matter expert for less experienced adjusters. Complete additional assignments, duties, or projects based on skills, achievements, or experience. Specialized Knowledge & Skills Requirements Demonstrated ability to handle 1st and 3rd party, multi‑line claims across operating territories. Provide customer‑driven solutions, support, or service. Efficiently and effectively handle complex claims. Extensive knowledge of policy and endorsement coverages. Successfully apply knowledge of each phase of the claim handling process. Additional Qualifications Advanced Xactimate experience required. 5 or more years of experience handling field property personal lines claims. Preferred: experience with a carrier handling property claims over $50k. Licenses Valid driver’s license required with an acceptable driving record. Obtain state‑specific property casualty claims licensing as required. Travel Requirements Up to 50% routine travel; up to 75% during catastrophe events. Physical Requirements Ascend/descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles. Visit areas with higher hazard than typical office (e.g., customer homes, body shops). Move objects up to 50 pounds in all directions. Work in low or high temperatures, outdoor elements (precipitation, wind), noisy or hazardous environments, poor ventilation, and small/enclosed spaces.
