Disaster Workforce Engagement Specialist

Job Description Joining the American Red Cross involves becoming a vital part of the world's largest humanitarian network, where success is measured in people helped and communities made whole. The Disaster Workforce Engagement Specialist supports volunteer teams to deliver comfort and care during disaster events, ensuring communities are prepared for response. Job Overview As a Disaster Workforce Engagement Specialist, you will guide, lead, and support trained volunteers, create and maintain robust volunteer engagement processes, and work with volunteers to ensure communities are ready to respond to disasters. Key Responsibilities Empower Volunteers: Facilitate and support a diverse volunteer team responsible for implementing volunteer‑led disaster cycle services programming and delivering services rapidly and equitably. Support the Program: Assist with the implementation of specific disaster cycle services program activities or functions within an assigned geographic area. Mission Capacity Building: Engage disaster volunteers who represent the communities they serve culturally and linguistically. Engage Community: Support local efforts to prepare and mobilize communities and partners for disaster response and recovery. Manage in a Matrix: Implement plans to meet assigned targets for volunteer engagement and volunteer‑led Disaster Action Team response to local home fires or other specific function tasks within the geographic area. Know Your Communities: Act as the local point of contact for partners and communities, partnering with local organizations and leaders supporting frontline communities and community resiliency before, during, and after disasters. Ready to Respond: Participate in disaster response operations in the region upon completion of training requirements. Pay Information The salary range for this position in California is $70,304 - $73,000. Minimum Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience. Experience: Minimum 3 years of related experience. Travel: Travel may be required. Deployment to disaster operations outside the assigned region is required. A current valid driver's license and good driving record are required. Required Skills and Abilities Ability to coordinate staff and volunteer activities. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Proven record of collaboration with diverse groups and individuals representing all demographics of the community, managing multiple priorities, facilitation, problem solving, marketing, leadership, and partnership management. Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Ability to work outside of regular duty hours, including nights and weekends. Residency Requirements Chapter‑based positions: Expected to work daily in the assigned geographic area to engage and mobilize communities and support volunteers. Regional positions: Expected to work daily within the region’s geographic area to provide leadership, engage and mobilize communities, and support volunteers. Physical Requirements Regular duties include sitting, using hands, talking, and hearing; reaching with hands and arms; standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Required vision: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, ability to adjust focus. Work environment includes moderate noise in business offices with computers, phones, printers, light traffic. Preferred Qualifications Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience working with volunteers and building relationships with community partners. Strong understanding of the Sacramento marketplace. Familiarity with Edge and Volunteer Connection.
