TVC - Claims Benefit Advisor (Strikeforce) - (Veterans Services Representative III)

General Description As a member of the State Strike Force Team of the Texas Veterans Commission, this position performs senior‑level claims review. The role involves assessing existing claims for proper documentation and completeness, reviewing claims for correct application of laws and procedures, and evaluating action taken by rating boards in the adjudication of veterans’ claims for benefits. The selected candidate must be able to start on Monday, June 15th, 2026. Telework is permitted on a case‑by‑case basis depending on performance and division approval. Telework is not a contract of employment and may be terminated at any time without notice. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Develop, review, and file claims and supporting evidence to ensure successful adjudication. Coordinate staff activity in the development and adjudication of existing claims and appeals. Review staff work to determine compliance with applicable legal requirements, agency policies, and accepted standards. Consult and instruct Claim Advisors and VCSOs (Veteran County Service Officers) regarding veterans’ claims and related issues. Understand and apply Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) rules and regulations when reviewing VA documents and veterans’ claim submissions. Evaluate and analyze existing benefit claims and determine appropriate actions to complete processing and adjudication. Qualifications Minimum Education: Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university with major coursework in social work, business management, political science or a related field. College transcripts must be provided before an interview is scheduled. Minimum Experience: Three (3) years of specialized experience assisting with documentation to determine basic eligibility for benefits or programs, preferably with VBA experience. Additional Requirements: A valid Texas driver’s license must be provided within 90 days of hire. Preferred Experience and Qualifications Honorably discharged veteran preferred. Experience in filing benefit claims with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of VA rules and regulations and VA databases such as VBMS, SHARE, and CASEFLOW. Skill in the use of personal computers; Microsoft Office Suite strongly preferred. Ability to interpret laws, rules, and regulations applicable to the processing of veterans’ claims. Ability to maintain efficient and effective relationships with stakeholders. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Environmental Physical Conditions Normal office environment, predominantly sedentary. The role may involve walking, standing, remaining stationary for long periods, pulling and pushing, kneeling, stooping, and bending, and lifting and carrying items up to 30 pounds. Extensive telephone use and repetitive hand, wrist, and finger motions while using the computer are required.
