Protection & Control Engineer

Job Summary and Purpose Entergy’s Project Delivery Engineering Department is responsible for planning, designing, constructing, maintaining, and operating over 16,000 miles of transmission lines and over 2,700 substations across the four‑state territory. The engineer will provide protection and control design engineering services for transmission and distribution substations, and supply technical guidance to asset management and capital projects teams. The engineer will communicate effectively with multiple discipline teams to ensure project goals are met and will support technicians troubleshooting AC power circuits, DC control circuits, and relay control logic. The role covers Arkansas, Texas, and Lake Charles regions with travel and overnight stays as required. Responsibilities Participate in project scoping activities for substation projects and site visits. Coordinate with design and construction organizations to develop project scope and estimate sheets. Perform engineering analysis and calculations to support relaying designs. Develop relaying design packages based on project scoping and site visits. Identify and procure all required relaying project materials. Utilize CAD software to create construction drawings for projects. Prepare relay operational one‑line drawings. Validate estimating prices and equipment units, ensuring material is properly ordered and staged for upcoming projects. Support project schedules and processes using activity‑tracking applications such as Primavera. Manage projects that are in construction. Complete as‑built documentation. Participate in weekly planning coordination calls. Work on special projects to improve grid reliability. Provide design oversight for contract engineering. Support activities pertaining to SERC/NERC standards compliance and other utility relations as required, focusing on PRC and CIP standards. Respond to equipment failures. Support lab testing and operations. Provide technical support and protection system expertise in response to operational/commissioning requests from field personnel. Support business analytic processes through data mining and reporting, and perform detailed engineering analysis in transmission‑related areas such as planning, economic analysis, maintenance, design, project management, construction, and operations. Assist with storm or emergency restoration efforts as necessary. Travel when required. Minimum Requirements Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from a four‑year ABET‑accredited institution. Degrees in Engineering Technology from a four‑year accredited institution with a PE may be considered. Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering. Experience: Engineer I: 0–2 years in an engineering discipline. Engineer II: 2–4 years in an engineering discipline. Engineer III: 4–6 years in an engineering discipline. Engineer Sr: 6+ years in an engineering discipline. Preferred: Relay design engineering experience. Skills and Knowledge Apply engineering principles effectively. Understand procedures, programs, and standards in the responsible area. Demonstrate sound engineering judgment. Exhibit leadership and interpersonal skills with strong written and oral communication. Strong math and project management skills. Proficient with Personal Computer operations and related software. Manage multiple activities and changing priorities. Work well under pressure and follow safety policies and procedures. Recognize and mitigate workplace hazards. Support a diverse and inclusive work environment. Identify opportunities for process improvement and enact change. Preferred Qualifications FE or PE licensing preferred. Location and Travel Primary location: New Orleans, Louisiana.
