Sr. Paralegal

Amentum is seeking a Senior Paralegal to join our team supporting a new team at the Department of Justice (DOJ) in Washington, DC.

This position is expected to work full-time onsite in Washington, DC. This position reports to a Supervisory Paralegal, or Project Manager.

Position Description:

Works under the direction of a Supervisory Paralegal or a Project Supervisor. Work products are reviewed prior to submission; however, often develops these products with minimal direct supervision other than written guidelines. In addition to functions performed by Paralegals, described below, performs moderately complex legal research; synopsizes transcripts of hearings and oral arguments for attorney use; reviews case related materials and, for example, identifies potentially conflicting statements or areas requiring further investigation; writes preliminary drafts of simple memoranda and correspondence. Contact mostly with other Contractor staff, but occasional contact with trial staff may be required.

Responsibilities/Duties.

• Performs detailed indexing of case files; drafting procedures for accomplishing litigation support assignments; document acquisition related tasks; screening for privilege documents; and conducting database searches

• Composes written documents in a concise and logical manner,

• Proofreads and edits written documents

• Reviews audio files for relevance and update databases with findings

• Prepares witnesses, exhibits and other evidence binders

• Receives and track discovery items

• Communicates with other DOJ components, Federal agencies and others as required during investigations and litigation

• Compiles, prepares, and summarizes relevant materials for use by attorneys in discovery and in preparation of motions, briefs and other legal documents

• Summarizes depositions and other transcripts; maintains case files; performs simple legal research; indexes, tracks and controls document discovery (including documents produced and received in discovery)

• Perform trial preparation tasks to include copying, document review, document organization, bates stamping, legal research and searching documents in Concordance/Summation

• During trial, assist with documents and indexes, tracks exhibits and other materials at depositions

• Utilize electronic and evidence management and discovery production processes and tools, such as Relativity, Casemap and Oncue, to support investigations

• Performs detailed reviews and analysis of case materials, which includes financial records, health care materials, and other litigation files

• Searches the Relativity database per criteria developed by case team management

• Reviews search result sets for relevance based on written criteria

• Responds to citizen and congressional correspondence;

• Responds to citizen phone calls

• Utilize electronic and evidence management and discovery production processes and tools, such as Relativity, Casemap and Sanction, to support investigations

• Required to travel up to 50% of the time to aid with trial preparation

Qualifications.

• Requires paralegal certificate, or JD, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study, or an equivalent level of legal training or experience; or an equivalent level of education may be substituted

• Additionally, at least two years of litigation paralegal experience or project experience (as related to the task order) is required; trial experience very helpful. At least one year of experience in automated litigation support.

• Must have experience handling financial crimes/non-compliance cases.

• Requires sound working knowledge of federal and state court system, legal research procedures, and legal research resources.

• Requires excellent written and oral communication skills and thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.

• Must have hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems.

• Role also requires hands-on familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources.

• Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure will be very important.

• Must be able to obtain and maintain MRPT facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for MRPT facility credentials/authorization at this work location.

*Employees will earn H&W dollars per eligible hour (including vacation and holiday up to 40 hours/week). H&W monies are used to offset the employer's cost of benefits the employee elects into and/or utilizes. Any remaining health and welfare monies after all applicable deductions would be cashed out to the employee on a 1 pay period lag.

Service Contract Act (SCA) Compensation & Benefits:

This is an hourly, overtime-eligible position that falls under the Service Contract Act (SCA). In accordance with the Health and Welfare provisions of the SCA, and in addition to your base hourly rate, you may be eligible to receive an additional health and welfare payment for each hour you work to ensure compliance with the minimums set forth by the act. The amount you are entitled to receive will vary depending upon the fringe benefits you select now and in the future.

Compensation Details:

$31.69
