Project Accountant

Senior Accountant | Overland Park, KS | In-Person

We are a growing federal general contractor based in Overland Park and we are looking for a Senior Accountant to take ownership of our project accounting function. This is a high visibility role where you will work directly alongside project managers and leadership, not just behind a desk running close processes. You will understand how projects are built, what drives costs, and how financial decisions shape outcomes in the field.

What You Will Be Doing

Owning WIP schedules, job cost reports, project forecasts, and margin analysis across a portfolio of federal construction projects
Calculating and recording revenue under the percentage of completion method in accordance with GAAP
Partnering with project managers to monitor budget vs actual costs, cost to complete estimates, and project profitability
Managing over and under billings, project cost accruals, and cash flow forecasting
Supporting month end and year end close including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial analysis
Preparing financial documentation for federal clients and supporting the annual audit process
Pitching in on AP, payroll, and cash reconciliations as needed in a small team environment

What You Bring

Bachelor's degree in Accounting
5+ years of accounting experience, ideally in construction or project accounting
Big 4 or public accounting background a strong plus
Experience with job costing and percentage of completion accounting
Strong Excel skills and sharp analytical abilities
Experience with Viewpoint or similar construction ERP a plus
A self starter mentality and the ability to thrive without constant oversight
