About the job As a Mechanical Engineer (Mechanisms and Actuation), Robotics team, your mission is to build components for advanced robots capable of dexterous, general, and useful physical actions. You will contribute to developing the core hardware systems for our robots, aiming to enhance the lives of billions worldwide through advancements in the physical realm. Utilize advanced modeling, multi-physics simulation, and optimization techniques to design high-performance actuators, maximizing torque density, efficiency, and dynamic response while minimizing thermal and structural bottlenecks. Develop structural and kinematic systems that define the physical capabilities of advanced mobile robots, specifically focusing on the rapid development of prototype mechanisms. Create detailed 3D models and 2D drawings using Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) (ASME Y14.5), ensuring designs meet the performance, reliability, and manufacturability standards required for precision robotics hardware. Architect, select, and integrate drivetrain systems and apply deep expertise in electromagnetic motor architecture, precision gear design, bearing arrangements and lubrication methods to optimize torque density, backlash, and efficiency.
