Supervisory Public Affairs Specialist

The Supervisory Public Affairs Specialist serves as spokesperson for the Medical Center and conducts the public affairs program for the Medical Center with responsibility for developing and providing staff direction involving all public information, internal communications, VSO liaison, and community relations activities. Major duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Serving as the Medical Center's lead advisor and point of contact for public affairs, media relations, public information, and community outreach activities
- Planning, implementing, and evaluating public affairs, media relations, internal communications, and community engagement programs that support the Medical Center's mission and strategic objectives
- Advising leadership on communication strategies, media issues, public perception, and stakeholder engagement matters affecting the Medical Center
- Managing relationships with media representatives and responding to public information requests to ensure accurate and timely dissemination of information
- Developing and distributing communication products, including news releases, speeches, presentations, publications, digital content, and informational materials
- Coordinating communication efforts with VA Central Office, VHA, VISN, Veterans Service Organizations, and community partners to support consistent messaging and outreach initiatives
- Assessing communication needs, monitoring media coverage, and recommending strategies to enhance organizational awareness and public understanding
- Planning and coordinating special events, ceremonies, outreach activities, tours, and public awareness initiatives that promote Medical Center programs and services
- Preparing executive briefing materials, correspondence, speeches, presentations, and informational packages for leadership and external stakeholders
- Conducting studies, analyses, and special projects related to communications, organizational effectiveness, and stakeholder engagement
- Overseeing photography, multimedia, and the production and distribution of public information materials
- Supporting employee engagement and internal communications by promoting organizational accomplishments, initiatives, and key information
- Building and maintaining partnerships with Veterans, community organizations, government agencies, and other stakeholders to strengthen public trust and awareness
- Supervising Public Affairs staff by assigning work, managing performance, supporting employee development, and carrying out administrative and personnel management responsibilities
- Performing other related duties as assigned
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday; 08:00 a.m. to 04:30 p.m.
