Senior Family Law Paralegal & Operations Lead

About the Firm and Why This Role Exists

Vijay Law is an established San Jose trial practice — high-conflict family law, domestic violence restraining orders, and criminal defense. The firm was founded by Vijay Dinakar, a trial attorney with more than 18 years of experience. As a paralegal you will work primarily on family law matters.

You will handle discovery, declarations, and hearing preparation on contested family matters for the attorneys, and you will also help run the office.

This is a role for a strong family law paralegal who wants more ownership than a traditional paralegal position offers.

What You Will Do

Family Law Paralegal Work

• Propound and respond to discovery, including special interrogatories, document demands, and objections.

• Prepare Judicial Council forms, pleadings, declarations, and other filings in contested family law matters, with a high level of accuracy and filing readiness.

• Assemble exhibit binders and hearing materials; coordinate filing, service, and electronic filing systems.

• Own and maintain the litigation calendar, including court dates, discovery deadlines, statutory deadlines, and other critical case milestones.

Business and Office Operations

• Build and maintain the firm's written procedures and standard operating procedures (SOPs) in collaboration with the head attorney; build systems and processes with growth in mind, so tasks, documents, workflows, and responsibilities are organized for efficient handoffs as the team expands.

• Run a weekly operations meeting with the attorney — calendar, deadlines, open items, and what's next.

• Manage day-to-day office operations, including court communications, transcript requests, special appearances, vendors, supplies, and other administrative needs.

• Run the firm's practice-management system and recommend whether to keep it or change it.

Firm Growth and Execution

• Identify operational gaps, inefficiencies, and opportunities before they become problems; take initiative to develop and implement solutions without waiting to be directed.

• Stay ahead of the firm's needs by anticipating upcoming priorities, identifying what will be needed next, and proactively moving work forward.

• Serve as a highly execution-oriented partner to the attorney: someone who can take ownership of a task or problem, figure out what needs to happen, and see it through to completion.

You are a strong family law paralegal who wants more ownership than a traditional paralegal role offers. You know how to move a matter forward without being told every next step, you notice what is missing before it becomes a problem, and you take pride in building systems that make the whole operation run better. You are comfortable wearing multiple hats, switching between substantive casework and business operations, and working directly with an attorney who expects you to bring solutions — not just questions. You think ahead, follow through, and care about leaving things more organized than you found them.

What We're Looking For

• Qualified as a paralegal under California Business & Professions Code § 6450.

• 2+ years of California family law paralegal experience, including contested matters. Hands-on discovery experience is required; forms-only experience is not sufficient.

• Organized enough to run the office, with the confidence to keep both yourself and the attorney accountable to calendars, deadlines, and commitments.

• Detail-oriented and accurate the first time, with a habit of checking your own work before it goes out the door.

• Comfortable with practice-management software and willing to use AI drafting and research tools.

• Preferred, but not required: experience coordinating a video, social media, or SEO workflow with outside vendors; additional language skills

Compensation and Benefits

• $75,000–$110,000 depending on experience.

• No billable hour requirement. You are measured on whether the work is accurate, on time, and organized — not on hours logged.
