Water/Wastewater Superintendent
Crossland Services LLC
Superintendent
With a company built on family—by family—it's no surprise that working here is so much more than just putting on a hard hat and work boots.
At Crossland, you join a group of Real Builders who care about bringing long-lasting facilities to our clients and providing the best culture and opportunities for our employees. With our own in-house education program, you'll find the resources, support, and training necessary to put you on the path to success.
Position Summary:
The Superintendent serves as the Company's on-site representative, holding responsibility and authority for the daily coordination and direction of the project. Through thorough pre-planning, the Superintendent develops a construction approach and ensures that all daily and weekly activities align with that plan. Working in partnership with the Senior Project Manager or Project Manager, the Superintendent forms a complementary team in which combined efforts exceed individual contributions. Typically, though not always, the Superintendent oversees projects with values up to $50 million. Below is a partial (but not exhaustive) list of the Superintendent's primary responsibilities:
Essential Functions:
Safety - Safety planning is to be included in all pre-job planning and considered foremost in the daily operations. All projects, governmental and company safety regulations and requirements shall be enforced. Establish Crossland Heavy safety culture on the project.
- Quality – The Superintendent is responsible for all quality control on the project, both company and subcontractors. Any repetitive quality problems with a subcontractor or vendor should be called to upper management's attention. The company has a policy and past record of providing high quality work, and this high-quality standard is to be maintained on each project.
- Job Planning – Responsible for the initial direction of the project should be able to make course corrections during the project. They are responsible for the jobsite setup including laydown plan, material handling plan, and mobilization of equipment and labor.
- Scheduling - Participate in the project scheduling to the extent necessary to ensure that it is "their schedule" and that it complies with the job planning. Build and execute smaller fragments of the overall CPM schedule, commonly known as a three-week look-ahead schedule.
- Coordinate and supervise all company workforces on the project. Responsible for the balance of labor force on the job, requests are made through the Area Superintendent for the addition and subtraction of labor.
- Develop Superintendents, Trade Superintendents, Senior Field Engineers, Field Engineers, and other skilled personnel.
- Personnel evaluation, development, and retention. The Superintendent will be consulted in the assignment of salaried staff. They are responsible for holding them to the expectations that have been established, providing feedback to, and evaluating salaried personnel under his or her direction. They are responsible for recommending promotion, transfers, or termination according to the project's needs and personnel evaluations.
- Coordinate and schedule all subcontractors – Hold weekly scheduling meetings with all subcontractors.
- Develop form detailing and special construction methods for job efficiency.
- Maintain accurate time keeping and cost records. The next job you build may be bid based on your cost record.
- Study Variances carefully to determine areas needing special attention and initiate changes and procedures to bring costs back into budget. Know production rates for all labor items in the variance and coordinate production goals for all crews.
- Expedite vendors and subcontractors on a daily and weekly basis. Use the Project Manager for assistance with major or unusual delivery performance problems.
- Material Receiving - Be sure that material received is properly inspected for quantity and quality, and that the receiving tickets are properly signed and coded and given to the Jobsite Administrator.
- Equipment - Equipment needs should be reviewed with the project team to ensure that the right equipment is being utilized for the upcoming activities. Emphasis should be given to utilization of company-owned equipment. If the equipment is not available from company sources, the Superintendent may rent as required, coordinated through the Equipment Managing System. Equipment Maintenance and reporting is the responsibility of the Superintendent.
- Owner Relations – Participate in Owner/Engineer/Contractor meetings and, in coordination with the Senior Project Manager or Project Manager, ensure the Owner and their representatives are promptly informed of schedule changes and potential conflicts. These relationships are essential to project and company success and must be treated as a top priority.
- Be sensitive to special requirements of the customer or neighbors to ensure satisfactory relations.
- Maintain Project Logs. Project logs or "paperwork" may be delegated to other employees, but the Superintendent is to complete the daily report and the three-week schedule.
- Responsible for protection and care of company owned assets including tools and equipment.
