QUALIFICATIONS: Master Degree Arizona Guidance Counselor Certificate Three (3) years instructional experience in a school setting (preferred) Knowledge of special education laws, procedures, practices, materials, equipment, and compliance standards required to provide appropriate learning experiences for special education students. Good knowledge of the nature and effects of the impairment(s) in all areas of disability. Experience in consultation/collaboration with regular classroom teachers; ability to coordinate activities with related and specialist staff Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, parents and the community; excellent human relations skills; skill in both oral and written communication; ability to work in multicultural environment with diverse population of students, staff, and parents Ability to travel to more than one work location in the course of the day as assigned May be required to control certain behavior(s) through physical restraint Obtain and maintain current NCI, First Aid, and CPR certification Ability to assess needs, develop and implement IEP, and evaluate outcomes in specialty Ability to coordinate activities with related and specialist staff ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS : (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Provide ongoing coaching to school counselors aligned to the district vision, mission, goals and strategic plan. Visit schools to coach and provide non-evaluative feedback to counselors on their progress towards the goals of the district. Collaborate with district leaders to support the performance and growth of school counselors Provide coaching and support for counselors to Initiate and implement individual and group counseling. Facilitate classroom counseling guidance programs. Create trusting and supportive relationships with counselors to create effective systems to support students’ social and emotional needs. Convey to parents and staff, regarding specific student needs in academic, career and personal/social areas. Provide students, parents and staff with prevention and intervention programs in career awareness, behavior management, effective decision making and goal setting, etc., and facilitate parent groups, newsletters, etc. Maintain records of counseling services and consulting contacts. Assist in identification and evaluation of children with special needs. Assist the staff and parents with the interpretation of evaluative data and other student records. Cooperate with outside agencies and other Special Needs services within the district. Middle school counselors provide academic advisement, master schedule, registration, and student schedules. Maintain daily and Medicaid logs and time study. Register with Medicaid as a provider. Adhere to the highest ethical and professional standards as outlined by ASCA. Maintain accurate records for compliance with district, federal and state guidelines. Follow state law and district policy with cases involving child abuse and neglect. Provide on-going consultation and support to teachers and teams in the development, design and implementation of Functional Behavioral Assessments and Positive Behavior Intervention Plans for students experiencing difficulties. Participate in the District Crisis Team as needed. May be required to participate in students’ meetings which occur beyond the staff’s work assignment schedule. Perform other duties as assigned.
