Police Officer

A Police Officer ensures safety and upholds laws, protecting life, property, civil rights, and public order through impartial enforcement and community service. The Officer patrols areas, responds to calls, enforces laws, investigates crimes, prepares reports, testifies in court, assists those in crisis, and collaborates with community members to prevent crime.

Lateral Officers encouraged to apply! Additional incentives include: up to $46.12 per hour, increased vacation and sick leave, and shortened probationary period Middleton Patrol Officers work 10.5-hour shifts on a 2-on/2-off, 5-on/5-off rotation with every other weekend off.

Job Functions

What You'll Do:

• Patrol the community and respond to calls for service, emergencies, traffic incidents, and other public safety concerns.
• Enforce federal and state laws and City ordinances; conduct lawful detentions, arrests, searches, traffic enforcement, and other law enforcement activities.
• Conduct investigations, interview involved individuals, collect and preserve evidence, and prepare accurate reports and other legal documentation.
• Exercise sound judgment and discretion when assessing situations, resolving conflicts, making enforcement decisions, and determining appropriate courses of action.
• Communicate and collaborate with community members, coworkers, courts, and partner agencies to address concerns, solve problems, and promote public safety.
• Safely operate law enforcement vehicles, technology, firearms, and other equipment; maintain required proficiency and perform physical, rescue, and protective activities as needed.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Police Officers work in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments, including extended periods in a law enforcement vehicle and exposure to all weather conditions, traffic, hazardous scenes, confined spaces, and other unpredictable conditions. The position involves frequent public contact, emergency situations, conflict, and circumstances requiring sound judgment under significant physical and emotional stress.

Officers must be able to perform the physical demands of law enforcement work, including prolonged sitting, standing and walking; running and pursuing individuals; climbing and overcoming obstacles; bending, reaching and working in confined areas; and lifting, carrying or dragging objects or persons weighing more than 50 pounds. The position also requires sufficient vision, hearing, mobility, and physical capability to safely perform the essential functions of the position.

Academy Officer rate: $34.88 per hour
