Facilities Technician II

Responsibilities Perform general maintenance and repair activities on campus facilities including: Electrical: Replace receptacles and lamps, relamp campus exterior and interior lighting, including changing electric motors. Plumbing: Maintain commercial toilets and urinals, unclog drains with plumber’s snake, plunger, and/or drain rod, perform minor repairs on drinking fountains. Carpentry: Construct, install, and modify building partitions, drop ceilings, bulletin boards, furniture, window frames, door shelving, perform minor locksmith and lock repair, roof repairs, whiteboards, patch walls, adjust and reinstall doors. Painting: Apply paint or varnish with brush, roller, or spray gun to surfaces, fill cracks/holes with plaster or spackling paste, repair sheet-rock walls. HVAC: Perform routine inspection and cleaning of major equipment, perform minor repairs under supervision, change filters, perform preventive maintenance, grease and adjust belts, adjust motors, clean coils. Perform basic troubleshooting procedures to identify defective machinery and equipment, operate a variety of hand and power tools, and operate small equipment. Record time spent, estimate project material needs, and drive vans and large trucks not requiring a CDL. May perform other duties commensurate with the position, including committee assignments and student recruitment and retention. Qualifications Education: Focused training; may require special certification/license and demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities. Experience: 5 years with certification or 7 years without certification. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered. Must have or be able to obtain an Arizona Driver’s License and be insurable to drive college vehicles. Knowledge of mechanical, plumbing, and electrical equipment maintenance. Knowledge of building maintenance and repair methods. Ability to use grinders, saws, drills, and other hand tools. Knowledge of estimating materials and tools needed for tasks. Knowledge of current DOT highway safety laws and practices for operating college vans, trucks, and buses. Minor mechanical, plumbing, and electrical repair/maintenance and painting skills. Ability to perform heavy manual labor. Ability to operate a variety of equipment common to facility maintenance. Must be able to drive a vehicle and have or be willing to obtain a valid Arizona Commercial Driver’s License. Strong communication and interpersonal skills interacting with college administrators, faculty, staff, and students. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Hourly Rate $19.65 - $20.83 (dependent upon qualifications). Physical Requirements Perform heavy manual labor requiring dexterity, physical steadiness, and awkward reaches. Regularly required to stand or walk seven (7) hours a day. Regularly handle objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms for maintenance with hand and power tools; climb or balance on ladders; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl in confined spaces. Regularly lift or move 25 pounds; frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds.
