Behavior Specialist

The Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation (EVSC) is seeking a Behavior Specialist to support students with behavioral, social, emotional, and cognitive needs. This is a non‑exempt position scheduled for 183 days per school year, 7.25 hours per day, following the Board of Trustees–approved school calendar. SUMMARY Develop behavior plans and interventions, provide direct support to students, coach staff, collaborate with families and community partners, and maintain a continuum of supports. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Support and model Tier I behavior support practices, using data to inform prevention and intervention. Partner with school teams to administer universal screening protocols, identify students needing self‑regulation interventions, and assign them to intervention groups. Provide student support including de‑escalation, teaching coping skills, conflict resolution, and problem‑solving. Assist MTSS teams in assigned schools. Perform Safe Crisis Management procedures when required. Collaborate with stakeholders to implement evidence‑based interventions tied to students’ root causes. Collect and analyze observational, qualitative, and quantitative data. Prepare data for evaluating programming and developing behavior plans. Facilitate small‑group instruction focused on self‑regulation skills. Use technology to record intervention programs and data, adhering to school system standards. Develop, implement, review, and modify student support plans, including Tier II and function‑based plans. Plan and implement skill‑development sessions, refueling breaks, and check‑in/check‑out times as part of MTSS. Engage in professional development to improve social, emotional, cognitive, and academic outcomes. Provide workshops, training, and in‑service presentations on behavior support strategies. Establish productive relationships with administrators, teachers, students, and families. Attend regular check‑ins with district support. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s degree preferred in Education, Psychology, Social Work, Applied Behavior Analysis, or related fields; Associate’s degree required. Experience with PK‑12 students preferred. Knowledge of child and adolescent development, assessment, mental health, and function‑based plans required. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Valid driver’s license for travel to multiple schools. LANGUAGE SKILLS Read and analyze professional literature and regulations. Write reports, behavior plans, goals, correspondence, and manuals. Present information to educators, parents, and the public. Communicate effectively with co‑workers, parents, and staff. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Score and interpret rating scales. Apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Interpret data trends. REASONING ABILITY Solve practical problems with variable situations. Interpret written and oral instructions. Generalize behavior principles to specific situations. Assess antecedents.
