Step-Down Registered Nurse

Clinicians should be prepared to use strong critical-thinking skills. They must adapt to the available resources. A well-rounded clinical approach across a variety of responsibilities is essential. Telemetry test is required. The traveler will complete a telemetry test onsite, typically during orientation. They will have two attempts to pass. Failure to pass after the second attempt will result in contract cancellation. Please review this requirement with the traveler prior to submission. Patient ratio on the unit is 1:4-5. The patient population includes diagnoses such as congestive heart failure, post-heart catheterization, and respiratory failure. Unit procedures include post-heart cath care and frequent vital signs and neurovascular checks. Required skills include cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation. IV start and maintenance, PICC line management, and blood product administration are necessary skills. Experience in emergency medications and procedural sedation is also important. Management of cardiac drips and neurological CVA/acute stroke management is expected. Clinicians must adhere to infection prevention, isolation precautions, and PPE guidelines. Phlebotomy skills are also required. This position may involve assisting with chest tube insertion and removal. Candidates should have experience in managing dysrhythmias and understanding telemetry. Knowledge of advanced cardiac life support protocols is essential. Documentation and charting in preferred systems may be needed. The unit will provide interdisciplinary support, including interpretation services. All requests for time off must be included in the initial submittal. Previous employees cannot be submitted for traveler positions. Return travelers are eligible to return as long as they are in good standing.
