Director, Financial and Actuarial Consulting

Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. (AJG)

How You'll Make an Impact Primary focus of the role is to oversee and manage a team of professionals providing guidance and assistance to account teams and clients using financial decision‑making tools, conducting client‑facing meetings when appropriate, speaking effectively on behalf of the underwriting team regarding core services, and acting as a mentor/coach to management positions. Key responsibilities include involvement with strategic planning meetings for budgets and financial implications for clients, consulting with the account management team, identifying need for project work based on dominant priorities of the division and region, articulating the need for projects to management, acting as an ambassador for the organization by participating in and promoting carrier functions and activities, building and maintaining positive relationships with outside vendors, contributing to divisional and corporate workgroups, providing insight and guidance on all fundamental underwriting services and tools, conducting regularly scheduled underwriting team meetings and regional staff calls, developing and distributing appropriate communication to internal staff, clients, corporate teams and industry peers, assisting in the sales process through production of financial projections on large accounts and related underwriting analysis, overseeing coordination of and helping conduct underwriting team training programs for staff and clients, serving as a resource to branch office staff to contribute toward measurable ROI of services and retention of clients, mentoring, assisting, educating and supporting staff development, and delegating to staff to ensure time is utilized most efficiently. About You Required: Bachelor's degree and nine years of experience on the broker or carrier side with a focus on health and benefits. Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows applications and Microsoft Office. High degree of understanding of employee benefits funding mechanisms and familiarity with carrier reporting systems. Preferred: Effective negotiation skills, advanced knowledge of underwriting principles and of the employee benefits field. Behaviors: Must have strong interpersonal skills; excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to build meaningful professional relationships in order to succeed in required client‑facing activity. Must demonstrate ability to manage and mentor individuals and a team effectively, and remain amiable when encountering difficult situations with clients, vendors, co‑workers and direct reports. Compensation and Benefits We offer a competitive and comprehensive compensation package. The base salary range represents the anticipated low end and high end of the range for this position. The actual compensation will be influenced by a wide range of factors including, but not limited to, previous experience, education, pay market and geography, complexity or scope, specialized skill set, lines of business or practice area, supply and demand, and scheduled hours.
