Job Description

An established transportation and logistics organization is seeking an experienced FTL Dispatcher to coordinate drivers, equipment, and freight throughout the Chicago market and beyond. You will manage multiple loads and drivers while monitoring shipments, communicating with customers, and responding quickly to delays and changing priorities. This fast-paced role requires strong knowledge of truckload operations, driver scheduling, Hours of Service, and transportation systems. The ideal candidate anticipates problems, communicates proactively, and keeps freight moving safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities:

• Dispatch and coordinate FTL drivers, tractors, trailers, and customer loads based on availability, location, equipment needs, delivery requirements, and Hours of Service
• Monitor active shipments, pickup and delivery appointments, driver status, ETAs, delays, and service exceptions from pickup through final delivery
• Communicate regularly with drivers, customers, and internal teams regarding load assignments, schedules, routes, appointments, and changing priorities
• Resolve transportation issues including breakdowns, traffic, weather, detention, missed appointments, schedule changes, and other service disruptions
• Plan driver availability and upcoming loads to maximize fleet utilization while minimizing downtime and empty miles

Qualifications and Requirements:

• 2+ years of FTL, truckload, fleet, or transportation dispatch experience strongly preferred
• Experience dispatching Class A CDL drivers in an asset-based trucking environment preferred
• Working knowledge of DOT regulations, Hours of Service (HOS), and ELD requirements
• Experience using TMS, dispatch, GPS, ELD, or transportation tracking systems
• Strong understanding of load planning, routing, pickup and delivery appointments, and driver scheduling
• Ability to manage multiple drivers, loads, and priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Strong problem-solving, organization, customer service, and verbal and written communication skills
• Chicago-area transportation, routing, or regional freight experience is a plus
