Facilities Specialist

Job Summary A Facilities Specialist plans, directs, manages, coordinates, diagnoses problems, and performs maintenance specialist functions for a complex state‑of‑the‑art data storage facility. This position is primarily for a plumber with additional building maintenance experience. The role involves working in a 24/7/365 environment with rotating 12‑hour day and night shifts. Primary Activities and Responsibilities Conduct preventative maintenance and facility checks Conduct commercial troubleshooting and repair Conduct plumbing maintenance and repairs Assist in maintaining commercial refrigeration and controls Assist in maintaining cooling towers and chilled water systems Assist in maintaining HVAC systems, building air balancing, fire suppression, plumbing, fuel distribution systems, and electrical including security equipment Assist in maintaining fire alarm system, generators, switch gear, UPS system, substations, and panel boards Sign on, monitor, and input controls into the following systems: Fire Alarm System Facility access control and security system Trane BAS system On‑site weather station CCTV camera system and computerized digital video recording system Have experience working with SOPs, O&M manuals, as‑built drawings, and manufacturers technical specifications Interface and coordinate with support contractors to maintain the facility Interact with and oversee vendors and service providers for the data storage facility Work as a member of a team responsible for 99.99% system uptime with zero defects Respond to audible and visual alarms by taking ownership, creating trouble tickets, troubleshooting and resolving alarms, or escalating accordingly Physically set up a ‘warm site’ temporary office working space for contracted customers upon notification or direction Physically disassemble a ‘warm site’ temporary office working space and re‑shelve/store it for future use Work independently and within a team environment Perform miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by management Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED Certified or accredited training in maintaining facility equipment and building management systems Computer experience Plumbing certification and experience Preferred Qualifications High School Diploma or GED Three or more years of experience in building maintenance with a strong skill set in plumbing Experience in security equipment, fire suppression, water distribution, sewer, elevator, mechanical, and electrical/UPS/backup power plant systems Knowledge and Skills Effective communication with internal and external customers Clear written communication in English, including logs, memos, notices, and reports Interaction with computerized security systems, alarms, and cameras Desired Technical Background Licensed as a plumber, master plumber, or pipe fitter Physical Requirements Lift up to 70 pounds, walk, stand, climb ladders, scaffolding, stairs, and work in confined spaces Work Conditions Modern facility with long hours, confined spaces, and occasional noise Required Supervision Ability to follow specific and general instructions, independent decision‑making skills, and the ability to work independently Other Requirements Valid driver’s license Availability to work extended hours if needed Drug screening/basic physical Criminal and credit background check Employment verification Extensive customer‑driven background check Job Requirements Work in confined spaces at times Different shifts as assigned in a 24‑hour/7‑days‑a‑week operation (including nights, weekends, and holidays) Hours include rotating on‑call responsibilities which may be outside standard hours Wear protective equipment appropriate to the task or environment (e.g., eye protection, protective footwear, hard hat, hearing protection) Work hours may vary in length and schedule (may include a non‑standard work week) Equal Opportunity Statement CSX is an Equal Opportunity Employer for veterans and disabled individuals.
