Job Description The Safety Specialist serves as the owner’s representative at active project sites and partners closely with Project Management to support and maintain project safety goals. This role is responsible for promoting a strong safety culture, ensuring contractor compliance, conducting field audits, and supporting safe work execution throughout all phases of construction activities. This position requires a strong field presence and the ability to work directly with contractors, project teams, and safety personnel in a fast‑paced construction or utility environment. Responsibilities Promote and reinforce a strong safety culture where safety remains a top priority throughout project execution. Ensure contractor compliance with OSHA regulations and all applicable federal, state, and local safety requirements. Provide guidance regarding safety regulations, standards, and code compliance impacts to projects. Conduct contractor safety orientations and audit required safety documentation. Ensure all required safety materials, forms, plans, and applicable regulations are available onsite. Develop and maintain emergency action plans and incident response procedures. Respond to reported safety concerns and support corrective action efforts. Perform safety audits and inspect facilities, equipment, and work activities to identify and correct potential hazards. Immediately stop unsafe work conditions that present imminent danger and coordinate resolution with contractor safety teams. Track and follow up on corrective actions and, when necessary, escalate unresolved issues to Project Management. Communicate contractor incidents and safety concerns to project leadership in a timely manner. Participate in incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation. Prepare and manage reports related to injuries, illnesses, vehicle incidents, property damage, and safety compliance issues. Participate in project safety meetings and review ongoing project safety performance. Review field safety documentation including: Vehicle inspections Confined space permits Excavation permits Crane lift plans Operator certifications Attend contractor pre‑job briefings and evaluate safety compliance and quality. Maintain a visible field presence through regular site visits and interaction with field personnel. Conduct site walks with project and contractor safety teams to identify hazards and improve safety awareness. Support zero‑tolerance safety expectations across all project activities. Participate in corporate safety audits and OSHA regulatory visits as needed. Document OSHA observations, findings, and compliance discussions during regulatory visits. Identify and recommend continuous improvement initiatives and best practices to enhance project safety performance. Maintain approximately 80% field presence throughout the workday. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Safety or a closely related field with a minimum of 5 years of construction safety experience on large projects OR Current OSHA 500 certification with at least 5 years of experience serving as a lead safety professional OR CHST certification with a minimum of 4 years of construction safety experience as a lead safety professional Qualifications 1–3 years of experience serving as an owner’s safety representative Experience supporting utility, industrial, or heavy construction projects Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety standards Excellent communication, leadership, and field coordination skills Ability to work independently in active construction environments Education High School Diploma or GED required Additional safety certifications or related education Work Environment Primarily field‑based role supporting active construction/project sites Extensive site walking, inspections, and field interaction required Frequent collaboration with contractors, project managers, and safety personnel #J-18808-Ljbffr Energy Jobline ZR
