Performs analyses on blood and other body fluids for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease. Maintains proficiency to work in all clinical departments of the laboratory. Responsibilities:
- Performs assigned duties accurately and efficiently according to established procedures.
- Uses proper techniques and equipment in the performance of duties.
- Prepares specimens for processing, ensuring accuracy and proper testing as ordered.
- Processes and analyzes specimens by manual or automated methods for reporting results.
- Assures quality control criteria are met before releasing reports.
- Maintains organization to avoid confusion and potential for error.
- Assists with training of technical personnel.
- Maintains current knowledge of laboratory and hospital policies.
- Participates in proficiency testing or quality assurance activities.
- Maintains departmental equipment and supplies in working condition.
- Troubleshoots both instrumental and procedural problems.
- Assists with implementing new procedures and evaluating new products.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- No previous experience required.
- Certified MT with ASCP, AMT, NCCLS, or equivalent certification.
- Certified MLS with ASCP, AMT, NCCLS, or equivalent certification.
- Continually maintains good rapport and cooperation with hospital departments and staff.
