License: Certified MT with ASCP, AMT, NCCLS or equivalent certification. Certified MLS with ASCP, AMT, NCCLS or equivalent certification.

Must-Have: Blood bank and micro experience preferred.

Description: Under the direction of supervisors, the Medical Technologist / Medical Laboratory Technician is directly responsible for the prompt and accurate performance of assigned work. This role involves performing analyses on blood and other body fluids for the diagnosis and treatment of disease. The Medical Technologist / Laboratory Technician must maintain proficiency to work in all clinical departments of the laboratory. Responsibilities include performing assigned duties accurately and efficiently according to established procedures. Proper techniques and equipment must be used in the performance of duties. Specimens must be accurately prepared for processing, ensuring correct identification and logging of patient information. Prompt processing and analysis of specimens is required, using both manual and automated methods to determine qualitative or quantitative results. Quality control criteria must always be met before releasing any reports. Any procedures that appear to be out of control must be repeated immediately, following established departmental protocols. Keeping work organized is essential to avoid confusion and potential errors. Results should be consistently reviewed for accuracy and completeness prior to release. Inconsistent results should be repeated, and new specimens must be requested when appropriate. Assistance from a supervisor should be sought when difficulties with identification, interpretation, or processing arise, or when rare abnormal results are obtained. Assisting with the training of technical personnel by demonstrating techniques and reviewing work performance is part of the role. Participation in proficiency testing or quality assurance activities as instructed is expected. Maintaining current knowledge of laboratory and hospital policies, procedures, and performance standards is crucial. Continuous awareness and compliance with safety, infection control, and quality assurance procedures must be demonstrated. Suggestions for improving laboratory services are encouraged when appropriate. Compliance with policies for the release of patient information is necessary, along with appropriate documentation of report releases. Maintaining departmental equipment and supplies is part of the responsibilities. Daily performance checks on all instruments must be conducted, and equipment must be kept in working condition. Any problems with equipment should be communicated to the supervisor promptly. Troubleshooting both instrumental and procedural problems when they arise is necessary. Maintaining a sufficient inventory of departmental reagents and supplies must be ensured. Requests for additional materials must be submitted promptly to the supervisor when needed. Cost control in the utilization of materials is expected, with suggestions for conservation encouraged. Reagents must be rotated, dated, and tested as received or prepared to ensure accuracy and availability. Assistance with the implementation of new procedures and evaluation of new products or equipment is part of the duties. Evaluation of new products, procedures, or techniques must be documented and communicated to the supervisor in a timely manner. Suggestions for changes in methodologies or workflows to increase accuracy and efficiency are welcomed. Specimen collection duties must be performed, with patient identification verified prior to collection. Prompt response to requests for specimen collection is required, and effective communication with patient care areas is essential. Miscellaneous duties may be assigned as needed, and voluntary assistance to co-workers is encouraged when workload fluctuates.
