Job Title: Machinist Job Description
This role involves setting up and operating CNC Haas mills and lathes in a clean, organized, and team-oriented shop environment. The machinist performs multiple daily setups, runs production parts to specification, and conducts quality inspections using precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers.
Responsibilities- Set up and operate CNC Haas mill and lathe machines to produce parts according to engineering drawings and specifications.
- Perform an average of 45 machine setups per day, including changeovers, tooling adjustments, and program selection.
- Read and interpret blueprints to determine machining operations, dimensions, tolerances, and inspection requirements.
- Adjust tools and offsets to maintain dimensional accuracy and part quality throughout production runs.
- Operate additional shop equipment, including drill presses and other mechanical machinery, as needed.
- Conduct in-process and final quality inspections using micrometers, calipers, and other measuring instruments.
- Troubleshoot machining issues such as dimensional deviations, surface finish problems, and tooling wear, and make necessary corrections.
- Monitor machine operation, identify abnormalities, and take corrective actions to ensure safe and efficient production.
- Collaborate closely with the lead machinist and production leadership to prioritize work, resolve issues, and meet production schedules.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, following shop safety procedures and using required personal protective equipment.
- 2+ years of experience running CNC mills or CNC lathes, or a recent 2-year technical degree in machining.
- At least 1 year of experience reading and interpreting blueprints.
- Hands-on experience setting up and operating CNC Haas mills and/or lathes.
- Ability to perform multiple daily setups and changeovers efficiently.
- Proficiency in using precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers for quality inspection.
- Knowledge of tool offsets, machine operation, and basic troubleshooting of CNC machining processes.
- Mechanical aptitude and understanding of machining principles and shop practices.
- Ability to read and follow technical documentation, including blueprints and work instructions.
- Manual machining experience on conventional mills, lathes, or related equipment.
- Experience operating drill presses and other mechanical shop tools.
- Familiarity with CNC Haas controls and programming adjustments.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality parts.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented production environment.

Work EnvironmentThe role is based in an organized, relatively clean shop that is separated into different departments to support efficient workflow. You will work closely with a lead machinist and production leadership in a collaborative, team-oriented setting. The environment includes CNC Haas mills and lathes, drill presses, and other mechanical equipment commonly found in a machining facility. Safety is a core focus, and steel-toe boots and safety glasses are required at all times on the shop floor.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Owatonna, MN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $23.00 - $30.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
