Job Description Maintenance Technician III First Shift - Staples Distribution Center- Terre Haute Indiana \n Staples Connect is focused on our customers and our communities. We’re investing in our people and empowering you to learn, grow, and deliver as part of our inclusive, team‑oriented supply chain culture. \n As a Maintenance Technician III, you will serve as a senior technical resource within the Distribution Center, supporting advanced diagnostics, system reliability, and maintenance excellence across automated equipment, material handling systems, and facility operations. This role plays a critical part in ensuring equipment uptime, safety, and operational efficiency while mentoring and supporting other maintenance technicians. \n What You’ll Do \n In addition to performing all responsibilities of a Maintenance Technician II, the Maintenance Technician III will: \n Advanced Equipment & System Support \n \n Lead advanced troubleshooting, repair, and diagnostics for conveyor systems, automation equipment, electrical systems, and material handling equipment (MHE). \n Serve as the technical escalation point for complex mechanical, electrical, and controls‑related issues. \n Troubleshoot and support PLC‑controlled systems, VFDs, servo drives, sensors, encoders, and associated controls (Allen‑Bradley preferred). \n Identify root causes of recurring equipment failures and implement long‑term corrective solutions. \n \n Preventive Maintenance & Reliability \n \n Ensure 100% completion of Preventive Maintenance (PM) programs, while recommending improvements to PM strategies to reduce downtime and extend asset life. \n Take ownership of assigned critical systems or equipment, acting as a subject matter expert. \n Partner with leadership to support continuous improvement and system reliability initiatives. \n \n Leadership & Collaboration \n \n Mentor and support Maintenance Technicians I and II through hands‑on guidance, troubleshooting support, and knowledge sharing. \n Assist with onboarding and training of new maintenance team members. \n Maintain strong working relationships across Operations, Engineering, Safety, and Leadership. \n \n Project & Vendor Support \n \n Support or lead capital projects, equipment installations, and system upgrades. \n Coordinate with vendors and contractors, ensuring work is completed safely, correctly, and to Staples standards. \n Validate work quality and confirm operational readiness following installations and repairs. \n \n Documentation & Communication \n \n Complete work orders with clear technical detail, including corrective actions and root‑cause observations. \n Communicate effectively on downtime events, equipment risks, and maintenance priorities. \n Lead by example with safety, documentation accuracy, and professionalism. \n \n \n Essential Skills & Experience \n \n High school diploma or GED \n 5+ years of industrial maintenance experience in a distribution center, manufacturing, or automated environment \n Advanced electrical troubleshooting experience ranging from 24V DC to 460V AC (3‑phase) \n Strong working knowledge of:\n \n Automated conveyor systems and controls \n Industrial electrical, electronics, hydraulics, and pneumatics \n PLC troubleshooting (Allen‑Bradley preferred) \n VFDs, motors, sensors, relays, and control circuits \n \n Ability to read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals \n Proficiency using electrical diagnostic tools (digital and analog meters) \n Ability to complete detailed work orders and documentation \n Strong safety mindset and ability to work independently during critical events \n Ability to be trained and certified on powered industrial equipment (forklift, EPJ, etc.) \n \n \n Preferred Skills & Experience \n \n Trade school or technical degree (Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics) \n Prior experience in a lead or senior maintenance role \n Experience supporting automation upgrades or capital installs \n Familiarity with reliability or continuous improvement practices \n Strong communication skills (written and verbal) \n \n \n Physical & Work Environment Requirements \n \n Role operates in a warehouse environment with exposure to temperature variations, heights (up to 50 feet), welding fumes, dust, vibration, and industrial chemicals. \n Regular bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching \n Continuous standing and/or walking (up to 5 miles daily) \n Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and access elevated platforms safely \n \n Ability to work in a moderate noise environment \n \n Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds and work safely around automated equipment. \n \n \n Additional Information \n \n Regular schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. \n \n Overtime, extended shifts, and weekend work may be required during peak periods or for emergency repairs. \n Demonstrated regular attendance and reliability required \n Must pass background check and drug screen \n \n Staples does not sponsor applicants for work visas for this position \n \n \n \n \n Get great perks. \n \n Full time hours, weekly pay, growth opportunities, and generous paid time off; hiring immediately \n 401(k) plan with a company match, full benefits plan and options, and associate resource group \n \n Associate store discount and more perks (discounts on mobile plans, movie tickets, etc.)Full time hours, weekly pay, growth opportunities, and generous paid time off; hiring immediately \n \n \n #HTF \n #stapleswarehousehiring \n At Staples, “inclusion” is an action word.
