Responsibilities

The Unit Secretary Equipment Technician acts as a patient experience ambassador to facilitate and maintain a positive experience with our patients, family members, visitors, and physicians by welcoming and explaining hospital and unit policies and procedures and addressing and escalating patient problems and concerns for service recovery. The Unit Secretary Equipment Technician also performs clerical support for the unit and the Nurse Manager and maintains the equipment within the high risk nursery.

• Assistance: Performs and aids the physician and nurse with a variety of treatments and patient care procedures.
• Communication: Reports pertinent information to the immediate supervisor and gives a general report on all patients at the end of each shift. Reports vital signs and records accurately and within a timely manner.
• Documentation: Observes, reports and records patient care, symptoms, treatments and reactions following approved policies and procedures of the institution.
• In-service: Assists and participates in in-service education.
• Patient Area Maintenance: Maintains a clean environment in patient rooms and work area.
• Patient Observation: Notifies RN of changes in patient condition in a timely manner and documents appropriately.
• Personal Care: Performs and/or assists patients with personal care activities, such as baths, showers, skin and hair care, and oral hygiene. Provides specific patient care as directed by the Registered Nurse and/or other designated individuals.
• Teaching: Contributes to patient and family teaching while performing procedures as instructed.
• Other Duties: Performs other tasks or special assignments as necessary to maintain proper operations and patient care. Completes other duties as assigned and demonstrates flexibility with job responsibilities in all areas.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

• High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
• Proficiency with medical vocabulary and general understanding of hospital policy & procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

• Completion of a Secretarial course and/or a Medical terminology course.
• Previous experience as a Nursing Unit Secretary in a hospital setting.
