About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Med/Surg/Telemetry Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years with 1 year of direct Med/Surg experience. License: Current nursing license required. Certifications: BLS, NIH, NIHSS; ACLS preferred but not required. Must-Have: - Minimum of 2 years of experience as a nurse. - Must have 1 year of Med/Surg experience. - Unit will not accept first-time travelers; candidates must have at least 2 successful contracts before applying. Description: RTO after booking is not allowed and cannot be worked out onsite. Any call-offs or additional RTO on the unit could possibly result in a cancellation. Required skills include IV start and telemetry, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, and Med/Surg neuro experience. Travelers are required to work every other weekend. If RTO includes weekends, time will be added to the end of the contract to make up for those dates. Frequent floating to other Med/Surg/Telemetry areas may be required. Patient diagnoses primarily include stroke patients, as well as possible neurosurgery patients and other neuro diagnoses such as epilepsy and traumatic subdural hematomas. The unit has a 4-bed epilepsy monitoring unit (EMU), and travelers may receive training for this specialty. The daily census averages around 42 patients. The unit utilizes PYXIS and EPIC for medication and charting systems. Staffing ratio will be 1:6. Travelers must pass EKG testing prior to starting in this specialty. Participants in this role must comply with floating requirements. Candidates must be open to floating within and near the facility as per job description. All shift assignments must be made up within the same week or at the end of the contract if necessary.
