JOB SUMMARY
The Head Start Compliance Coordinator is responsible for ensuring ongoing compliance with federal, state, and program regulations, including the Head Start Program Performance Standards (HSPPS), licensing requirements, and internal policies and procedures. This position provides proactive oversight to prevent deficiencies, supports corrective action implementation, and monitors systems related to child safety, documentation accuracy, and operational integrity. The Coordinator serves as a key member of the program's monitoring and continuous quality improvement system.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Conduct routine monitoring of program operations to ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and applicable regulations.
- Monitor implementation of corrective action plans and track progress toward
- Perform site visits and audits to review documentation, child files, staffing practices, health and safety compliance, and service delivery.
- Identify compliance risks early and provide recommendations for corrective or preventive
- Prepare compliance reports for leadership, governing board, and program specialists as
- Maintain records related to monitoring activities, findings, and corrective
- Conduct regular and random review of center camera footage to ensure child safety, appropriate supervision, and adherence to active supervision policies.
- Monitor for incidents involving child safety, staff conduct, and mandated reporting
- Collaborate with leadership to investigate incidents identified through camera
- Ensure timely follow-up documentation and communication related to safety
- Maintain confidentiality and proper handling of video records in accordance with policy and legal requirements.
- Provide trends and data analysis from camera reviews to support continuous improvement and training needs.
- Review and track incident reports for completeness, timeliness, and
- Ensure immediate escalation of reportable incidents in accordance with Head Start requirements and mandated reporter laws.
- Verify that corrective actions and follow-up plans are completed and
- Assist in preparing documentation for reporting to governing bodies or regulatory
- Provide training and coaching to staff on compliance requirements, mandated reporting, documentation standards, and monitoring expectations.
- Support ongoing professional development related to child safety and compliance
- Assist management with implementing policies that strengthen compliance
- Work closely with program leadership, site supervisors, and content area managers to ensure alignment on compliance expectations.
- Participate in internal monitoring meetings and weekly compliance
- Serve as a resource for staff regarding performance standards and operational
- Communicate findings professionally and constructively to support
- Analyze monitoring data to identify recurring risks or
- Develop recommendations for systems improvements to strengthen compliance and prevent future deficiencies.
- Support preparation for federal reviews, audits, and monitoring

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Human Services, Public Administration, or related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in Head Start or early childhood program administration, monitoring, or compliance.
- Strong knowledge of Head Start Program Performance Standards, child safety regulations, and monitoring systems.
- Experience with program audits, licensing standards, or quality assurance
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and
