Food Service Account Clerk
Board approved: Qualifications and duties of the food service account clerk position:
Qualifications: High school diploma, including or supplemented by courses in bookkeeping, accounting, and business office procedures. Ability to calculate numbers, correct entries, and post to accounts. Knowledge of computerized information systems used in financial and/or accounting applications. Knowledge of correct English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Ability to effectively communicate accounting information, policies, and/or procedures in a manner easily understood by students, parents, teachers, and staff. Knowledge of cash management principles and/or procedures. Account balancing skills. Ability to analyze and solve problems.
Reports to: Principal, Assistant Principal
Supervises and evaluates: N/A
Job goals: To accept and record meal payments, balance cash receipts, monitor delinquent accounts and perform a variety of fiscal-related clerical duties.
Terms of employment: 9 months
Evaluation: Performance of the job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy.
Performance responsibilities:
- Effectively utilizes district technologies appropriate to the position and assumes responsibility for attending district training needed to successfully perform designated responsibilities as directed by building principal.
- Processes, notifies and verifies free and reduced meal applications.
- Issues meal cards and/or numbers to students, teachers and staff.
- Collects and counts cafeteria money on a daily basis and posts to appropriate accounts.
- Keeps accurate account of meals served each day- free, reduced, paid students, staff, and visitors.
- Compares daily meal count with tray count in kitchen and notes any discrepancies in the count to the building principal.
- Monitors accounts and notifies students, parents, teachers and staff the status of their account prior to it becoming delinquent.
- Balances receipts against cash received, prepares and deposits money in the bank.
- Reconciles bank statements to both accounts and deposits.
- Contacts district personnel to obtain and provide information, and to resolve problems.
- Type correspondence, memos and reports.
- Prepares daily cafeteria reports, edit checks.
- Prepares monthly cafeteria reports and submits them to the central office.
- Must maintain confidentiality of records and information.
- Effectively present information and respond to questions from administration, staff, and the general public.
- Awareness of all district requirements and school board policies.
- Promote a harmonious working relationship with supervisor, staff, students and patrons.
- Respond to parents, staff, and other community members in an appropriate manner when dealing with sensitive matters such as a returned check.
- Use a variety of accounting office equipment including a typewriter, computer, calculator, and adding machine.
- The employee may be required to stoop, reach, stand, walk, lift, pull, push, grasp, talk, hear, see, and use repetitive motions.
- The employee may lift and/or move up to 50 pounds of materials.
- Close vision to read handwritten, typed or printed material is required.
- Meet multiple demands from several people and interact with students, parents, teachers, other staff members, and the public.
- Noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.
