The role of a Medical Lab Scientist I involves performing a wide range of routine and complex technical procedures in a laboratory setting. You will assess the acceptability of specimens, operate and troubleshoot lab instrumentation, and ensure accurate and timely reporting of test results. This position is crucial for delivering quality patient care through meticulous laboratory testing.

Responsibilities

• Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.
• Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
• Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
• Make technical decisions regarding testing and problem-solving.
• Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents or controls.
• Report accurate and timely test results to deliver quality patient care.
• Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
• Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary.
• Assist with processing of specimens when needed.
• Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or meet local regulatory CLIA State requirements.
• Minimum 0-2 years of clinical laboratory testing experience.
• State Medical Technologist license may be required.
• ASCP or AMT certification is preferred or required.
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
• Proficiency with computers.
• High level of attention to detail.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to pass a standardized color vision screen.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Familiarity with laboratory information systems is a plus.
• Epic Beaker system experience.
• Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science OR equivalent qualifications as specified.

Work Environment

This position operates on a 3rd shift schedule from 8 PM to 6:30 AM, with a requirement to work every other weekend. Weekday hours may vary, and flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs is necessary. The work environment includes the use of personal protective equipment and the operation of sophisticated laboratory technologies.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Vancouver, WA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $36.75/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
