J&J Energy Solutions is an engineering, tooling, and field-services company in Morris, Illinois, built on five decades of machine-shop and fabrication expertise. We design and build custom tooling, cranes, and lifting solutions for the wind-energy and power-generation industry, and our field crews put those solutions to work up-tower and on-site. What You’ll Do

• Product design and development, taking custom tooling, cranes, and lifting solutions from concept to production.

• Create 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings for machined and fabricated parts and assemblies in Fusion 360.

• Produce load-securement drawings, rigging/lifting drawings, and part labeling/marking drawings.

• Perform load calculations and load/structural simulation (FEA) to validate designs for strength and safety.

• Use 3D scanning and reverse engineering to capture existing components and turn them into working models.

• Generate CAM programs/toolpaths to support CNC machining in the shop.

• Run and iterate on 3D-printed prototypes to test fit, form, and function before production.

• Work hands-on in the shop, collaborating with machinists, welders, and fabricators throughout the build.

• Apply a working knowledge of welding, fabrication, and machining to design parts that are practical to build.

• Travel to customer sites and wind farms to take measurements, validate fit, and support field deployment of tooling.

• Maintain drawings, revisions, and documentation with the precision our clients count on.

What Were Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering

• Fusion 360 is our primary CAD platform — proficiency in Autodesk Fusion 360 for 3D modeling and 2D drawings is required.

• A creative, outside-the-box mind, able to design things that don’t exist yet rather than copy what’s already out there. Innovation is core to how we work.

• Experience with load/structural calculations and simulation (FEA).

• Familiarity with CAM software and CNC machining workflows.

• Understanding of welding, fabrication, and machining processes, and how to design for them.

• Exposure to 3D scanning, reverse engineering, and 3D printing.

• A hands-on, problem-solving mindset and comfort working alongside the shop team.

• Strong attention to detail and clear technical documentation habits.

• Preferred: experience in the lifting, rigging, and transport industry.

Physical & Travel Requirements

• Some travel required to customer sites and wind farms.

• Must be comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and climbing wind turbines when needed.

• Able to work hands-on in an active machine shop and lift/handle tooling and components as needed.

• Must meet safety and medical requirements for tower climbing and field work (training provided as needed).

Nice To Have

• Experience in wind energy, heavy equipment, rigging/lifting, or custom tooling.

• Knowledge of rigging standards and lifting-equipment design considerations.

• GTAW/GMAW welding familiarity or shop machining experience of your own.

• Experience using design standards such as the AISC Steel Construction Manual, Aluminum Design Manual or similar.
