RN Labor and Delivery

Job Summary:


The Registered Nurse in Labor and Delivery provides skilled nursing care to patients experiencing labor, preterm labor, and related obstetric conditions. This role involves managing labor rooms and triage, performing circulatory and surgical assisting duties, and supporting antepartum, postpartum, and neonatal care. The nurse collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe delivery and patient-centered care, requiring expertise in specialized procedures and equipment. A minimum of 2 years of experience and proficiency with Epic, along with required certifications, are essential.

Responsibilities:

• Provide nursing care in labor rooms, triage, and postpartum settings.
• Circulate, assist in OB-GYN surgeries, post-op, pre-op, and scrub roles.
• Manage low-risk antepartum, labor and delivery, and transition nursery care.
• Administer blood and blood products, manage epidural, PCA, and syringe pumps.
• Perform special procedures including cardioversion, defibrillation, and wound care.
• Attend all deliveries including high-risk deliveries and provide couplet care.
• Collaborate with NICU and float to other units based on skill set and staffing needs.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience in labor and delivery or related field.
• Active Registered Nurse license with compact license acceptance.
• Proficiency with Epic electronic medical record system.
• Certifications: BLS, FHM, NRP, AWHONN Intermediate.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• ACLS certification preferred.

Special Considerations:

• Must have experience attending all deliveries including high-risk cases.
• Staffing ratios range from 1:1 to 1:3 depending on patient acuity.
• Float to postpartum and NICU units based on skill set.
• Travel contracts available for candidates separated from prior facilities for at least 3 months.
• First-time travelers are not accepted.

Scheduling:

• Shifts include coverage of labor rooms, triage, and associated units; specific shift patterns determined by facility needs.
