Description of Job General Statement Of Duties Provides professional accounting work for the Colorado Judicial Department. Distinguishing Factors The Accountant III classification is distinguished from the Accountant I and II classifications by the assignment of more complex accounting duties and responsibilities. In addition, this classification may act in a lead capacity by reviewing the work product of other staff, providing training, and mentoring other accounting unit staff. Essential Functions To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform assigned essential functions listed below satisfactorily. Assists the Accountant IV and the Department Controller with analyzing financial reports, preparing fiscal year-end exhibits, reconciling accounts, developing training material, teaching classes, and writing fiscal rules. Prepares, reviews, and/or approves accounting transactions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements, Judicial Branch Fiscal Rules, statutory requirements, and other authoritative guidance. Such transactions may include, but are not limited to, disbursement of funds, receipt and deposit of funds, journal entries, and intra-governmental transfers. Reviews and identifies accounting procedures and processes that need to be improved; researches appropriate resolutions; and provides recommendations to the Department Controller. Prepares special financial reports as requested. Provides phone, email, and in-person customer service to department personnel, vendors, and customers. Attends meetings and trainings as required. Performs other duties as assigned. Additional Comments This is a General Accounting position. The position is hybrid, primary work location is Ralph Carr Judicial Center 1300 Broadway, Denver, CO 80203. Supervisor Responsibilities Responsible for one's own work product and work performed within the accounting unit. Provides direct supervision, guidance, and assistance to others. Duties include scheduling and assigning of work, training in all facets of work, quality control, and decisions impacting the pay, status and tenure of others. Conducts performance appraisals, and provides input into and participates in discipline, dismissal, and hiring processes. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to perform repetitive motions, and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Work Environment The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. May handle emergency or crisis situations; is subject to many interruptions; may handle multiple calls and inquiries simultaneously. Education And Experience Equivalency Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in accounting or closely related field, such as finance, and four years of professional accounting experience.
