OVERVIEW

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Boston Public Schools seeks a Program Coordinator to assist the Director of Teacher Pipeline and Licensure Programs in all aspects of coordinating and organizing the district’s “grow your own” teacher pipeline and licensure programs such that the Director can fully execute all aspects of his/her/their role, including: providing strategic, instructional, and operational leadership for all teacher pipeline and MTEL support programs across BPS, driving their growth to advance the diversity of the district’s teacher workforce as well as to successfully cultivate effective, equity-oriented teachers for Boston’s schools. The Program Coordinator works alongside the Director, attending to the operational and organizational needs of BPS’s three “grow your own” teacher pipelines programs and MTEL support teams, which are programs designed to cultivate and support quality and qualified early career teachers. The Program Coordinator provides accurate coordination, record keeping, and organization for all Teacher Pipeline and Licensure Programs, such that the Director is able to designs, revises, and implements programming in response to overlapping and interrelated changing landscapes: the multiple district priorities and operational changes and structures, the scope of the needs of the prospective educators being cultivated, DESE’s requirements for licensure, and the vast and changing needs of the students..

Finally, the BPS TPP and Licensure Program Coordinator will assist the Director in the organization and coordination needs to accomplish the Office of Human Resources’s strategic goals:

  • By 2030, BPS will strengthen and sustain a diverse, equity-centered educator workforce by maintaining a robust Early Hiring Process and scaling research-informed recruitment and development strategies. Through these efforts, BPS will increase the representation of educators who reflect the demographics of our students and their families and improve retention rates across all educator groups

  • By 2030, BPS will have a smaller percentage of educators of color who are both hired and who remain waivers for more than two school years.

  • By 2030, BPS will establish a transparent, equitable hiring process that school leaders and hiring managers will enforce during all hiring decisions. This process will involve the careful consideration of all candidates whose demographics closely reflect that of the students and families of BPS.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Support and Administration

  • Manage recruitment, selection, cultivation and enrollment processes, including participating in review of application materials and admissions interviews , communications and running operations and logistics for teacher pipeline programs.

  • Provide operations and project management support as needed for the execution of the BPS teacher pipeline programs, including tracking deliverables and progress towards desired outcomes and licensure support for candidates and Fellows

  • Develop working knowledge of DESE’s licensure requirements and BPS compliance structures, such that Coordinator is able to assist with managing of licensure support and documentation for BPS employees

  • Serve as the liaison to other central office departments including facilities, data & analytics, business services, staffing and other

  • Provide strong customer service by communicating effectively and efficiently with a variety of internal and external stakeholders including Fellows and candidates, school-based employees, and other members of OHR and Central Office teams.

  • Draft and manage routine communications to BPS Teaching Fellowship stakeholders

  • Develop and maintain tracking systems for communications and program deadlines

  • Perform all other related duties as assigned by Director

  • Work closely with the Director to research, analyze, and report on BPS teacher retention programs, actions, and their impacts on recruitment, hiring, staffing, development and retention processes.

Educator Cultivation Support:

  • Liaise with the Recruitment team to:

  • Support the implementation of an in-depth cultivation strategy that engages current educators of color with potential future Boston educators of color through events, networking, online engagement, and personal outreach

  • Participate in cultivation work for top priority teacher candidates of color including personal application and interview support, event coordination, and facilitating connections between school leaders, top candidates of color, and hard to fill and high-need teaching positions

  • Share MTEL and licensure data on BPS employees to determine appropriate cultivation plans

  • Collect, analyze, and utilize data regarding all candidate cultivation activities and strategies for ongoing reporting to various stakeholders

  • Execute marketing and communications efforts which include ensuring a consistent, accurate, and compelling web presence; development of marketing materials (i.e. brochures, flyers, web pages, packets for partners/funders); supporting district Communications department with press releases

  • Create program materials, including PowerPoint presentations, marketing materials, handouts incorporating strong design and brand elements

  • Assist with talking points for meetings and events, draft email communications as needed

  • Assist Director of Teacher Pipelines with all End-of-Year organization

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (ex. Education, Business, Communications , etc.

  • Strong program or project management experience with extraordinary attention to detail, professionalism, ability to organize, plan and execute multiple projects simultaneously

  • Solid data and financial management skills; demonstrated experience in developing spreadsheets and reports/ database management (Excel, Google sheets)

  • Demonstrated success in analyzing and interpreting quantitative as well as qualitative data and diverse information and to make recommendations based on the findings, specifically using Excel and / or Access

  • Strong skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and Google Suite; proficiency in developing/maintaining websites

  • Ability to adapt to changes quickly, proposing and implementing thoughtful solutions

  • Very strong interpersonal skills, ability to develop good relationships and network with various populations

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Proven ability to analyze complex problems, ask for guidance as necessary, and able to propose appropriate solutions

  • Strong ability to work as part of an active team, work simultaneously on multiple tasks and projects, prioritizing daily activities

  • Possesses growth mindset, actively seeks and uses feedback to improve performance

  • Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment

Qualifications - Preferred:

  • Master's Degree in the field of education, business or related field

  • Knowledge of MA DESE licensure regulations

  • Experience in design, layout, branding

  • Wiki space, management experience

  • Knowledge of or experience with PeopleSoft

  • Knowledge of or experience with grant administration

  • Experience in office coordination in a large organization

  • Experience working in or with schools/districts
