Ceramics, Decorative Vases & Objects | New York City

The Role:

E.S. Originals is seeking a Senior Designer to shape and develop home accessory collections for U.S. retailers, with a primary focus on ceramics, decorative vases, and objects.

This role calls for a designer who can see where the home market is heading, explain why it matters, and turn that insight into a distinctive, cohesive product assortment. You’ll connect macro trends to specific decisions about color, form, material, finish, and style—and carry those decisions through development with an eye toward the customer, the retailer, and the realities of production.

This candidate will pair an informed point of view with excellent design execution. They’ll be curious about the world beyond the category, confident in their color judgment, and skilled at making trend direction useful to a product team.

What You’ll Do:

• Monitor and interpret macro trends across interiors, fashion, art, culture, retail, and adjacent design fields.
• Synthesize research into clear seasonal and longer-term direction for home accessories.
• Lead color direction for the category, developing palettes that feel current, coherent, and right for the customer and retailer.
• Identify and articulate shifts in material, form, proportion, silhouette, surface, pattern, and decorative style.
• Translate trend insights into original product concepts and well-edited assortments of ceramics, vases, and decorative objects.
• Build a clear design story across a collection, connecting individual products through color, material, form, and point of view.
• Communicate ideas through mood boards, color stories, sketches, renderings, presentations, and product briefs.
• Develop designs from concept through sampling and production, refining details in response to feedback, cost targets, quality expectations, and manufacturing capabilities.
• Work closely with product development, merchandising, sales, sourcing, and suppliers to move projects forward.
• Research the marketplace, including competitor assortments, retail environments, pricing, and customer response.
• Manage multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining strong design standards and attention to detail.

What You Bring:

• A strong portfolio and experience designing home products, especially ceramics, decorative accessories, tabletop, or related categories.
• The ability to recognize meaningful macro trends and distinguish lasting shifts from short-lived novelty.
• A demonstrated talent for translating trend research into specific, relevant product direction.
• Exceptional color judgment and experience building palettes for products and assortments.
• A confident understanding of form, proportion, material, finish, surface, and decorative detail.
• Experience carrying products from early concept through supplier development, sample review, and production.
• The ability to present and explain design decisions clearly to creative and commercial partners.
• Strong collaboration, organization, and project-management skills.
• Proficiency with the design and presentation tools needed to develop and communicate product concepts.

What Sets This Role Apart:

You’ll help define the design point of view for an important home category. Success means more than producing attractive individual pieces: it means anticipating relevant shifts in the market and turning them into clear, ownable assortments that feel fresh, work for the retailer, and can be made to the required quality and cost.
