Assistant Controller - Franchise & Restaurant Operations

About the Role Capriotti's Sandwich Shop is seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Controller to join our Finance & Accounting team. The Assistant Controller will oversee day-to-day accounting operations, support financial reporting and analysis, drive process improvements, and partner with leadership to ensure accurate financial information that supports strategic decision-making. Lead and support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process while maintaining a seven-day close timeline. Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP. Develop financial reports, KPI dashboards, variance analyses, and ad hoc reporting for senior leadership and investors. Oversee franchise-related accounting activities, including royalties, franchise fees, marketing fund deposits, franchisee bill-backs, rebates, invoicing, collections, and reconciliations. Coordinate annual audit preparation and work closely with external auditors and tax professionals. Prepare and file annual personal property tax returns for multiple entities. Manage workers' compensation premium audits and related reporting requirements. Identify opportunities to improve processes, efficiencies, internal controls, and financial systems. Assist with implementation of new technologies, policies, and procedures. Mentor and support accounting team members while fostering accountability, collaboration, and professional growth. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance. 10+ years of progressive accounting experience. Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and GAAP. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills. Strong communication skills with the ability to present financial information to various levels of the organization. Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Preferred Qualifications CPA designation. Experience within the restaurant, franchise, hospitality, or retail industries. Experience leading, mentoring, and developing accounting staff.
