Emergency Medicine TechnicianThe Emergency Medicine Technician serves as a crew member on the EMS unit responding to emergency and non-emergency calls for service. Reports to: Supervisor, EMSJob Specific ResponsibilitiesInstructs first responders and the public on CPR and emergency care curriculumsOperates response vehicles in emergency and non-emergency traffic modesEvaluates scenes and responds to conditions as per policies and protocols; assesses patient and provides medical care on the scene and in route to the hospitalDelivers patients to hospitals; documents activities, including patient care, via written and electronic mediaMaintains EMS vehicles and equipment; performs routine maintenance and cleaning at EMS facilitiesPerforms other related duties and responsibilities related to Emergency MedicineEducation and ExperienceHigh School Diploma or GEDRequired Licensures/Certifications/RegistrationsPossess Texas EMT-B or AEMT certification in good standing with Texas Department of Safety Health SystemsBLS: Basic Life Skills certification by The American Heart AssociationClass C driver license with no DWI convictions in the prior 10 yearsEMT-P required within 24 months of being in the roleSkills and AbilitiesPractical knowledge of medicolegal aspects of pre-hospital patient care is essentialBasic medical terminology and pre-hospital patient care skillsEffective communicator, both verbally and in writing; Must speak English fluentlyKnowledge of the Lubbock geographical areas or the ability to effectively read GPS coordinatesInteraction with Other Departments and Other RelationshipsThis position will interact with patients, their family members, health care providers, members of public safety and law enforcement personnel, students, volunteers, and fellow employeesPhysical CapabilitiesFrequently exerts a medium amount of force to lift, carry, push, pull and move patients or objects. Frequently work involves standing, walking, bending, stooping, crouching and kneeling. Occasionally work involves sitting, running, climbing stairs, climbing ladders and crawling.Environmental/Working ConditionsEmergency Medical Services provides crew quarters which are well lighted and ventilated. This position is subject to adverse weather and working conditions. The paramedic is frequently exposed to blood, and other infectious agents. Occasionally work involves the paramedic to be outdoors, in confined spaces, heights, underground, wet, and dry environment with a wide range of temperatures.
