Maintenance Technician

Company Overview BTD is a fast‑growing metalworking company that provides custom metalwork services for leading brands. The company employs over 1,100 people across four facilities in the Midwest and Southeast and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Otter Tail Corporation, a publicly traded company on NASDAQ. Summary Maintain, inspect, repair, and test all equipment and machines in the plant as well as the building’s operational system. Train new employees in proper equipment operation and provide ongoing information as required. Design and fabricate new equipment and accessories in conjunction with the maintenance function. Serve as an occasional leader on maintenance projects. Safety Safety is #1 at BTD. Every employee is expected to: 1) strictly follow safety policies, rules and safe work methods; 2) promptly correct or report safety hazards or unsafe conditions; 3) promptly report injuries for diagnosis and treatment; and 4) make regular suggestions for safety process improvements to support continuous improvement in safety. Essential Functions Able to train employees on proper equipment operation procedures and respond to questions as required. Maintain plant and building equipment through periodic inspections and cleaning. Repair equipment as necessary, including responding to emergency work orders. Read blueprints and schematic drawings to determine repair problems. Use continuous process improvements to improve preventive maintenance procedures. Assist in fabricating equipment as required, including welding, cutting, and drilling activities. Maintain accurate records of equipment repairs. Submit timely progress reports on specific maintenance projects and update individuals involved and/or departments. Replace machine parts as part of repair projects. Consult with Maintenance Supervisor and other personnel as required on maintenance and/or repair projects. Participate in other organized activities, committees, etc. within BTD. Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities High school graduation (or equivalent) plus at least two years of related technical training and three years of job‑related experience. Must hold a second‑class C or higher boiler license. Experience and Skills Required Strong working knowledge of troubleshooting and problem solving. Strong working knowledge of materials, methods, and practices used in electronic and manufacturing maintenance operations, including reading blueprints and schematics. Strong working knowledge of related safety requirements, including proper use of safety equipment. Ability to organize and perform complex manufacturing maintenance activities. Ability to operate general office equipment, including maintenance‑related applications on a microcomputer. Ability to understand, follow, and issue routine oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to establish an organized training procedure, including training, encouragement, direction, and involvement. Ability to build and encourage sound work ethics and independence among new maintenance staff. The qualifications listed above are guidelines. Compensation Salary Range OTC7 $24.88 - $34.86 per hour. The range shown complies with all state and local regulations. Salaries are determined based on an individual’s knowledge, skills, experience, and education, and do not include additional compensation such as bonuses, health benefits, vacation, or 401(k) match.
