AIX Senior System Administrator

Salary: $120,000 - 170,000 per year Requirements:

• We need a bachelors degree plus 6 years of experience as a systems engineer or systems programmer, or a high school diploma/GED plus 10 years of equivalent experience.
• We prefer 10+ years of enterprise AIX administration supporting mission-critical environments.
• We prefer 10+ years of hands-on experience managing IBM Power Systems hardware.
• We need expert knowledge of IBM AIX 7.x, IBM Power Systems (Power9 and Power10), HMC, VIOS, PowerVM virtualization, LPARs, and NIM.
• We value advanced experience with SAN storage, multipathing, TCP/IP networking, DNS, LDAP, SSH, NTP, backup and recovery, disaster recovery, performance monitoring, tuning, and capacity planning.
• We need strong Unix shell scripting skills in ksh, bash, and sh, with the ability to build, maintain, and troubleshoot complex automation scripts.
• We prefer experience developing and maintaining Ansible playbooks, roles, inventories, and automation workflows for provisioning, configuration management, patching, compliance remediation, and standardization.
• We prefer experience working in highly regulated industries, especially banking or financial services.
• We need familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements such as FFIEC, PCI-DSS, SOX, NIST Security Framework, and CIS Benchmarks.
• We prefer experience supporting high-availability and disaster recovery environments.
• We need strong troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and problem-solving capabilities.
• We need excellent verbal and written communication skills for working with auditors, vendors, application teams, and senior leaders.
• We value experience with banking core applications, payment platforms, enterprise monitoring tools, Terraform or similar automation platforms, and Red Hat Linux administration.
• We need key strengths in ownership, accountability, analytical thinking, attention to detail, security awareness, customer service, composure under pressure, collaboration, and leadership.

• We administer, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot IBM AIX systems across production, development, testing, and disaster recovery environments.
• We handle AIX installation, upgrades, patching, and full lifecycle management.
• We monitor system performance and capacity, and proactively address infrastructure issues.
• We manage file systems, storage allocation, volume groups, logical volumes, and other system resources.
• We tune and optimize AIX environments for performance.
• We manage IBM Power servers, including current and future platform generations.
• We administer HMCs, apply firmware upgrades, and perform hardware maintenance.
• We configure and support LPARs, VIOS, shared processor pools, and virtualization technologies.
• We coordinate hardware refreshes, migrations, and capacity planning.
• We ensure configurations meet banking regulatory, audit, and cybersecurity requirements.
• We support internal and external audits and remediation actions.
• We implement security hardening, vulnerability remediation, and patch management practices.
• We maintain alignment with FFIEC, PCI-DSS, SOX, NIST, CIS Benchmarks, and our information security policies.
• We support high-availability setups and business continuity efforts.
• We participate in recovery testing and document recovery procedures.
• We develop and troubleshoot automation scripts using Shell, KornShell, Perl, Python, or similar tools.
• We create and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures.
• We act as an escalation point for complex AIX and Power Systems incidents.
• We lead root cause analysis, document findings, and drive corrective actions.
• We partner with application, database, storage, network, and security teams to resolve infrastructure problems.
• We take part in a rotating 24x7 on-call schedule.
• We respond to critical incidents during evenings, weekends, and holidays when needed.
• We support planned maintenance outside standard business hours.
• We participate in change management meetings and processes.
• We coordinate maintenance outages with application teams.
• We execute platform upgrades, lifecycle tasks, software packaging, deployment, and system migrations.
• We conduct IAM reviews, manage deviations, perform audit remediation, and carry out baseline reviews and ongoing maintenance.

We are offering a remote Senior AIX Systems Administrator role that may be filled only in Arizona, North Carolina, or Texas. You will join our Platform Computing Operations team supporting critical banking platforms and mission-critical financial applications. This role plays a key part in the administration, security, performance, and availability of our IBM Power Systems and AIX environments.
