What to Expect As a Tesla Maintenance Technician, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the operational availability of a wide array of manufacturing equipment. You will apply your technical skills to install, maintain and repair mechanical and electrical systems, factory automation and robotics. You will work with the highest caliber process and equipment engineering teams to improve equipment reliability and minimize or eliminate downtime. Tesla's Equipment Maintenance is also the first‑responding problem solver who manages machine breakdown recoveries to keep production running. This is a physically demanding job working in tight spaces, requiring walking and standing all day, as well as bending, squatting, kneeling, climbing ladders and lying on the ground intermittently throughout the day. In addition, the technician may wear a fall protection harness while working from heights or from a suspended position. Maintenance Technicians will lift up to 50 lbs. and utilize other hand tools and power tools as needed. What You’ll Do Day‑to‑day coverage of production line equipment: respond to alarms, breakdowns, and production requests quickly and efficiently to minimize downtime. Diagnose equipment failures, find root cause and communicate actions taken to the rest of the team. Become journeyman level on all machines in the assigned area and be responsible for preventative maintenance, troubleshooting/repair, cleanliness and escalation of assigned equipment. Use manufacturing systems effectively (MES, spares inventory, issue tracking). Work with process and equipment engineering and other cross‑functional groups to resolve maintenance issues, improve equipment reliability, review procedures, and minimize equipment downtime. Recommend countermeasures to prevent repetitive breakdowns; organize and maintain a high degree of cleanliness in the maintenance area as well as performing spares inventory audits to ensure accuracy. Follow all aspects of maintenance safety protocol (LOTO, 5‑S, Arc Flash, etc.) to ensure that the maintenance team operates safely at all times, always leading by example. What You’ll Bring 5+ years of extensive experience troubleshooting and correcting industrial equipment maintenance breakdowns and failures; robotic, hydraulics, and controls skills. Must have expertise in one trade, proficiency in others, and the willingness to learn additional trades. Maintenance team leadership experience. Project management experience. Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of programs. Proficient in downtime reports, daily pass‑down reports. Must have command of the English language, both written and verbal. Essential Physical Demands Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours a day. Ability to stand and walk for up to 12 hours a day, including over varied and uneven terrain. Frequently and repetitively lift, push and carry up to 35 lbs., including the ability to carry 20 lbs. up and down stairs. Frequently and repetitively bend, lift and reach to install parts. Stoop, lay, bend, reach, squat, kneel, crouch, twist and crawl for extended periods of time, including up to 12 hours a day. Climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding or other high structures. Ability to find issues in a work process and receive safety signals using sight, touch, and hearing. Wearing personal protective equipment, including but not limited to safety glasses, safety shoes, bump caps, arm protection, and adhering to prescribed safety rules and guidelines.
