Become an adult literacy or math tutor! Join to apply for the Become an adult literacy or math tutor! role at Anne Arundel County Literacy Council . All low-income county adults desiring to improve their literacy, math, or English skills can receive free and individualized instruction from trained volunteer tutors. Students receive individualized instruction, learn at their own pace, and can adjust their meeting time/place when needed. Instruction occurs in public locations throughout the county, including all 17 county libraries, with convenient day, evening, or weekend options to help students who need flexible scheduling to accommodate their work and family obligations. Staffing AACLC leverages the skills and talents of hundreds of adult literacy and math volunteers. They are trained to teach adults in our tutoring program and receive ongoing training and support from mentors, student and tutor coordinators, and participation in quarterly math and literacy workshops. AACLC has received the 2012‑2020 Top‑Rated Great Nonprofit Awards for its 156 5‑star reviews from volunteers and students. In 2019 AACLC served 390 adults, with personal goals ranging from getting a GED, finding a job or better‑paying job, reading to their children or helping them with their homework, becoming a U.S. citizen, or living independently. AACLC now offers math/GED tutoring and ten AACLC students have achieved their GEDs since 2017. We are accepting virtual tutors located in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Do you have a passion for reading, writing, math, or ESL and want to make a positive difference in another person's life and in your community? Contact AACLC to receive training to become a volunteer tutor! Once trained, we will match you with a student who can meet at a convenient day and time for you. When social distancing restrictions are lifted, tutoring can occur at all 16 county libraries and in any public location in Anne Arundel County. Meeting in the evenings and/or on weekends are not a problem. We ask that tutors meet with their students, on average, for 2 hours per week, but you and your student will work out your weekly schedule and agree to take time off for holidays, birthdays, vacations, etc. This flexibility in scheduling is a big plus. We ask for an initial six‑month commitment to your student.
