Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Intermediate Care - Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Active state license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS - AHA only Must-Have: Experience with trach cares, Bipap, stroke, IV titration, titration of IV medications Description: The unit has 23 beds. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3-4. Common diagnoses and types of patients include, but are not limited to, stroke, cardiac conditions, sepsis, and surgical patients. RNs are required to titrate drips such as heparin, nitroglycerin, cardizem, levophed, cardene, precedex, etc. A Charge Nurse is present on each shift, ideally does not take patients but will if necessary. Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) are utilized on the unit, typically managing 8-23 patients each. Respiratory therapy equipment such as CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow is commonly used on this unit. RNs are expected to troubleshoot respiratory equipment but do not perform extensive procedures. Monitor technicians observe rhythms and rates; however, nurses are responsible for interpreting cardiac strips. Shifts are 12 hours long from 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. There is a weekend rotation dependent on unit needs. Holiday requirements include working every other holiday. There is no call or standby requirement. Floating to other units is expected, excluding emergency room and obstetrics. Any color professional scrubs are acceptable; scrubs are not provided. Orientation will consist of 1-2 shifts. The charting system used is EPIC. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is not required. This position is within an acute care setting and trauma level is 1.
