Controller

We are seeking a hands-on, growth-minded Controller to lead the day-to-day financial operations and project accounting across a dynamic, multi-entity commercial construction portfolio. Reporting directly to an experienced Fractional CFO and partnering closely with executive leadership (CEO & COO), this role will oversee financial operations for three distinct operating companies. This is an exceptional opportunity for a sharp construction accounting leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, excels at Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting, and possesses the technical savvy to champion an active Sage Intacct ERP transition. You will spend 4 days a week in the Fort Worth office and 1 day a week in the Dallas office.

Responsibilities

Core Accounting & Financial Operations

• Manage full-cycle accounting, general ledger, month-end closing, and financial statement preparation across three operating entities.
• Oversee AP, AR, bank reconciliations, and weekly check runs, driving operational efficiencies to streamline hands-on processing.
• Partner with outside CPA firms to finalize annual reviews, tax strategy, and year-end adjusting entries.

Project Accounting & WIP Management

• Lead project cost accounting, job costing, and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition across 20+ active 18-month GC projects, as well as fast-turnaround purchase-order (PO) work.
• Maintain, analyze, and publish accurate Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules to give leadership visibility into job profitability.
• Drive timely billings, subcontractor pay applications, retainage tracking, and cash flow forecasting.

Systems & Process Optimization

• Financial owner for the ongoing transition from QuickBooks to Sage Intacct (currently in parallel/go-live phase for the GC entity, with future rollouts planned for additional entities).
• Utilize and optimize auxiliary construction technologies including TimberScan (AP automation), AguAdesk (Project Management), and Plexus (Labor & WIP management).
