Position Summary

A Housing Specialist at Horizon Hearts Inc. plays a vital role in connecting clients with safe, affordable housing while navigating complex programs and regulations. The role combines  case management, advocacy, and administrative responsibilities , requiring a mix of interpersonal skills, technical knowledge, and familiarity with housing policies and community resources .

Key Responsibilities

Housing Specialists perform a variety of tasks to support clients in obtaining suitable housing. Core duties include:

1. • Assessing client needs and eligibility for housing programs, subsidies, or financial assistance, including evaluating income, assets, and special requirements such as ADA accessibility 
   • Developing individualized housing plans and coordinating with landlords, property managers, and real estate agencies to secure appropriate housing options 
   • Assisting with applications and documentation , including lease agreements, rental contracts, and supporting paperwork for housing programs 
   • Providing counseling and advocacy , helping clients navigate eviction risks, access supportive services, and understand housing rights 
   • Coordinating with community organizations and government agencies , including nonprofit organizations, HUD programs, and local housing authorities 
   • Maintaining accurate records of client interactions, housing placements, and program compliance 
   • Mediating landlord-tenant issues and ensuring adherence to fair housing laws and regulations 

Qualifications and Skills

1. • Education : Associate’s degree in social work, human services, public administration or a related field
   • Experience : 2 plus years previous work experience in housing assistance, case management, or social services.
   • Certifications : HUD Housing Counseling Program certification or Certified Occupancy Specialist (COS) through the National Center for Housing Management is a plus
   • Skills : Strong interpersonal, communication, negotiation, organizational, and record-keeping skills are essential. Empathy and advocacy abilities are critical for client support 

Compensation and benefits :

• Salary range: $24.00 an hour to $26.00 an hour depending on experience.
• Benefits include health insurance, Dental, vision, paid time off, 401(k)
