SUMMARY

Set up and operate a wide range of grinding equipment to generate geometries which cannot be done on other equipment because of size, tolerance, or shape. Grinding equipment and operations vary from simple to complex for the manufacturing of ceramic inserts or cutting tips and ceramic specials to precision tolerances. Operate to applicable production standards and quality standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Set up and operate a wide range of grinding equipment.
• Read and interpret router, blueprints, planning sheets, sketches, and related technical data to determine tooling requirements, set-up procedures, control settings, and machining methods and sequences. Write program for a variety of different cutting tips. Trouble-shoot existing programs and make changes.
• Load control media in machine controller or enter commands to retrieve pre-programmed instruction from database.
• Calculate and set machine controls to position spindle in relationship to work piece and to regulate factors such as grinding speed, feed rates, and clearance angles.
• Mount, align, and secure tooling, attachments, and work piece.
• Select and install grinding wheel on machine spindle. Dress wheel as required.
• Verify operation of ventilation equipment and other safety devices. Report malfunctions to supervisor.
• Start machine and monitor display operation, detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining.
• Verify dimension of finished workpiece for conformance to specification.
• Enter commands or manually adjust machine controls to correct malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining.
• Access input and control input into manufacturing process system.
• Load ceramic tips and ceramic specials into various machines, perform daily production machining operations to applicable production and quality standards and unload.
• Able to work with and instruct other employees as required.
• Monitor machine operation; make adjustments as required. Report machine malfunction to supervisor.
• Load into and unload parts from wash tank.
• Visually inspect all parts for missing or incomplete operations. Gage and indicate machined characteristics to quality standards.
• Comply with all quality, safety, and work rules and regulations.
• Perform specified equipment maintenance and cleaning.
• Follow all clean-up and housekeeping procedures.

Qualifications: Must have high school diploma or GED plus five or more years related experience. Applied computer knowledge and blueprint reading required.

Previous experience in a manufacturing environment.
