DEFINITION: Under general supervision, assists Native American students with assisting, identifying and relating to classroom activities for Sunnyside Unified School District.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

This list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class). TASKS:
Contacts and interviews Native American students and assists them in accessing District and local community services; supports higher levels of student agency and learner identity.
Establishes a process to improve individual student academic progress; monitors and assists with attendance issues on an on-going basis; facilitates student access to academic tutoring as needed or requested; makes home visits on a regular basis with prior scheduling and provides follow-up reports as required; attends projected and designated District-wide in-services, workshops, and meetings as needed; makes contacts with Native American students experiencing behavioral and/or social problems and facilitates access to District and local community services; maintains required student records related to project activities.
Provides support to Native American students with career/vocational education information and exploratory activities; distributes hygiene products, clothing, and school supplies to students in need; completes necessary reports as required; assists school personnel and acts as liaison between school and parents of Native American students; provides cultural awareness and activities for Native American students; performs related duties as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS :
Knowledge of Native American culture and background.
Knowledge of District and state attendance rules, regulations and laws.
Knowledge of District policies and procedures governing attendance.
Skill in resolving attendance issues.
Skill in handling difficult situations with parents or guardians.
Skill in preparing letters and reports.
Skill in following oral and written instructions.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments. Work requires frequent driving, bending, and may require some lifting. May be exposed to moving equipment, extreme weather conditions, toxic fumes and chemicals and infectious diseases.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate's Degree or 60 credit hours in Education, Native American Studies, or related field.
Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with Native American students and community, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. A valid driver's license and/or the ability to provide own transportation preferred.
Native American Preferred
Depending on the needs of the District, some incumbents in this class must be able to demonstrate fluency in both Spanish and English as a condition of employment. Salary Grade: L Hourly Pay: $22.55 Hours per Day: 8 Days in Contract: 211 Application Procedure:
