Job Title: Forming Press Operator (Hourly)
Job Description
This role operates press brake and forming equipment to produce high-quality steel components for heavy industrial, energy, and defense applications. You will work from blueprints and technical drawings, use overhead cranes and material handling equipment, and perform dimensional inspections to ensure all parts meet strict quality and safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Operate press brake machines to form steel components according to specifications for heavy industrial, energy, and defense applications.
- Read, understand, and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to set up and run forming operations accurately.
- Set up and adjust press brake equipment, including tooling and machine parameters, to achieve required part dimensions.
- Operate overhead cranes and material handling equipment to safely move large and heavy steel parts.
- Conduct dimensional inspections of parts using tape measures and other measuring tools to verify conformance to quality requirements.
- Check parts for defects and ensure all work meets established quality standards and customer requirements.
- Follow lean manufacturing initiatives, work instructions, and documented procedures throughout the production process.
- Adhere to all safety programs, guidelines, and best practices while operating machinery and handling materials.
- Perform operator-level preventive maintenance on machines to support continuous and reliable operation.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with facility standards.
- Work under the direction of the team leadership to safely produce quality parts in a timely and efficient manner.
- Collaborate with team members as a helper on smaller presses and forming machines while learning processes and equipment.
- Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to enhance quality, safety, and productivity.
Essential Skills
- Hands-on experience operating press brakes in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings accurately.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand forming processes and machine functions.
- Proficiency with shop math, including working with fractions and basic calculations.
- Ability to use a tape measure and other basic measuring tools with a high degree of accuracy.
- Experience conducting dimensional inspections of parts to verify quality.
- Experience operating overhead cranes and material handling equipment.
- Ability to follow work instructions, quality requirements, and safety procedures consistently.
- Capability to perform basic preventive maintenance on production equipment.
- Comfort working with large steel components and heavy manufacturing equipment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience within the manufacturing industry is preferred.
- Towmotor (forklift) experience is preferred.
- Experience with roll forming equipment or large presses is beneficial.
- Familiarity with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) is a plus.
- Experience in fabrication environments working with shear, drill press, and related equipment is helpful.
- Experience with press brake setup, including tooling changes and adjustments, is advantageous.
- Prior exposure to working with large parts and machines similar to those used in heavy industrial applications is beneficial.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality parts.
- Willingness to learn multiple machining and forming centers for future growth.

Work Environment
This position works in a heavy manufacturing and fabrication environment operating some of the largest roll forming and press brake equipment in the Northern Hemisphere. New team members typically start on smaller presses and forming machines, initially assisting as a helper while learning processes, safety practices, and equipment operation. The role operates on structured shifts, including a 1st shift from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and a 2nd shift based on four 10-hour days from 3:15 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. with potential overtime on Fridays. Work is performed under the direction of team leadership and focuses on safely producing quality parts on schedule. The facility includes multiple large machining centers, offering opportunities to cross-train and grow into operating different machines over time. The environment involves regular use of overhead cranes, material handling equipment, and large steel components, with a strong emphasis on safety, cleanliness, and organization on the shop floor.Ex
