Embedded Software Engineer - Battery Management Systems

San Diego, CA / Foster City, CASoftware – Software Platforms and Product /Full-time /HybridZoox is looking for an embedded software engineer to join our Firmware Power Systems team. Responsibilities include designing, building, and testing real-time embedded code in C/C++ for BMS (Battery Management Systems). Key responsibilities include implementing safety algorithms, managing board bring-up, and ensuring seamless hardware-software integration. The work includes Power management and efficiency, Charging control, a variety of operator controls, integration of supplier systems, coordination and control of all Power sub-systems, and low-level vehicle controls. This work requires collaboration with vehicle engineers, systems engineers, controls engineers, and suppliers to ensure the Zoox vehicle can drive safely and reliably. We are looking for people who are passionate about working with hardware and developing production-quality code for complex dynamic systems.In this role, you will:Design, develop, and test embedded software for BMS (Battery Management Systems of the Zoox vehicleImplement core logic for cell balancing, charging control, thermal management, and contactor controls.Integrate supplier sub-systems into the Zoox software stackCreate software requirements, design documentation, test plans, and other supporting documentationWork cross-functionally with vehicle engineers, controls engineers, software engineers, validation engineers, and other experts to ensure a seamless and highly automated experience for the Zoox vehicleContribute to all phases of the software development cycle including prototyping, requirements capture, design, implementation, and validationQualificationsBachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or equivalent experience8+ years of experience developing real-time embedded software for Power Electronics and Battery Management.Strong embedded C/C++ programming experienceExperience with embedded micro-controllers and/or microprocessors (ARM, PowerPC)Hands-on experience with hardware bring-up and system debuggingUnderstanding of sensors and actuators and automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN)Bonus QualificationsBasic knowledge of control systems for electromechanical systemsExperience with CAN, LIN analysis, and debugging tools (PCAN, CANalyzer, CANape, etc.)Familiarity with high assurance development practices and tools (Polarion, ISO-26262, MISRA C/C++, etc)$200,000 - $240,000 a yearCompensationThere are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. The salary range for this position is $200,000 to $240,000. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance.
