Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Specialty Director of Behavioral Health, the Mental Health Clinician is responsible for providing culturally competent behavioral health services to patients within the Department of Corrections (DOC) setting. Responsibilities include conducting psychosocial and diagnostic evaluations, developing treatment plans, providing behavioral health interventions, and coordinating care for patients receiving mental health and substance use treatment services.

The Mental Health Clinician will deliver high-quality, integrated behavioral health services while supporting Unity Health Care’s mission of improving patient outcomes, patient experience, care team well-being, and operational excellence. 

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct psychosocial and diagnostic evaluations for patients
• Develop individualized treatment plans and provide evidence-based behavioral health interventions
• Diagnose and treat mental health and substance use disorders
• Coordinate care with medical providers and interdisciplinary teams
• Provide preventive mental health education and patient counseling
• Refer patients to hospitals, specialists, or additional support services as needed
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and peer reviews
• Deliver culturally competent, patient-centered care in a correctional setting
• Collaborate with Behavioral Health leadership on population health and panel management initiatives
• Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and training activities
• Maintain productivity standards and support patient access to behavioral health services
• Respond professionally to patient concerns and contribute to a positive patient experience
• Support integrated care efforts within the patient-centered medical home model 

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related behavioral health field
• Current unrestricted DC professional license (LICSW, LGSW, LPC, LGPC, PsyD, or other relevant behavioral health license)
• Experience conducting behavioral health assessments and treatment planning
• Knowledge of evidence-based therapeutic interventions
• Experience working with diverse and underserved populations preferred
• Ability to work collaboratively within an integrated care model
• Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills
• Proficiency using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems
