Records Technician

Records TechnicianThe City of Lancaster is seeking an organized, dependable, and service-focused professional to join our team as a Records Technician. This position is responsible for preparing, reviewing, routing, filing, and distributing reports and records. The Records Technician processes public information requests, maintains accurate records, assists customers, and helps ensure information is released in accordance with the Texas Public Information Act and other applicable laws and procedures. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, comfortable working with confidential and sensitive information, and able to manage multiple requests while meeting required deadlines. At the City of Lancaster, we serve with PRIDE through:ProductivityResourcefulnessIntegrityDedicationExcellenceWe are looking for someone who takes pride in accuracy, provides professional customer service, follows established procedures, and contributes positively to the team.May include, but are not limited to, the following:Enter, code, update, and retrieve information from various computer systems in accordance with established proceduresSearch for and retrieve information from files, computer records, microfiche, and other documents in response to specific requestsProcess open records requests accurately and within required timelines under the Texas Public Information ActPrepare authorized correspondence for submission to the Texas Attorney General Open Records Division when a ruling is requiredReview, edit, release, and distribute police 911 calls, in-car video, and body-worn camera records under the direction and approval of the Records ManagerRelease records and information in accordance with the Public Information Act and other applicable laws, policies, and proceduresSort, review, and screen police reports for completeness before distributing them to the District Attorney's Office, defendants, victims, governmental agencies, and the publicMaintain logs, tracking systems, and other records controls to ensure case files and requests can be accurately monitoredCategorize and compile statistical information according to established guidelinesAnswer phone calls and respond to requests for information regarding records, departmental functions, and applicable policiesProvide backup support for City records storage and retrieval, including Iron MountainMaintain confidentiality and exercise care when handling sensitive or protected informationPerform other related duties as assignedAn associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school is preferred. Six months to one year of related experience and/or training may be accepted, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the position.
