Clinical Laboratory Technologist/Technician -Histology

Position Summary At Stony Brook Medicine, a TH Clinical Laboratory Technologist/Technician provides clinical services and follows all laboratory procedures and protocols to ensure proper patient care and safe work equipment. Qualified candidates demonstrate superior patient care and excellent communication skills while adhering to high standards of excellence. Duties Paraffin and embed biopsy, routine surgical specimens, placenta, autopsy and research tissue. Perform paraffin microtomy techniques, using the microtome to produce 2–5 micron sections. Stain, coverslip, assemble, label and distribute all prepared histology sections. Follow all appropriate protocols for LIS systems: Copath, Ventana Benchmark, Ultra, Symphony, Vantage and Copath. Complete routine and special requests for additional levels, recuts, special stains and immunohistochemistry; verify each upon completion in Copath and document for QA. Perform the battery of special stains and immunohistochemistry used in diagnostic histopathology. Rotate responsibility for laboratory instrumentation maintenance, including reagent changes for processing, staining and coverslipping; maintain QA documentation and temperature logs daily. Assist pathologists by grossing biopsy specimens as assigned. Required Qualifications NYS License as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist or NYS License as a Histology Technician. BS degree in biology, medical technology, or other life sciences, or an AAS degree from an accredited program in Histotechnology. Good interpersonal and communication skills. HT (ASCP) or eligible. One of the following experience levels: SL‑1 (0‑2 years) SL‑2 (3‑5 years) SL‑3 (≥6 years) Preferred Qualifications NYS License as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist. Minimum one year histology clinical laboratory experience, including special stains, immunohistochemistry, and microtomy. Experience with renal, nerve, muscle specimens and biopsy grossing. Pre‑Employment Requirements Complete pre‑employment physical exam and medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine Employee Health Services. Electronic reference check with at least three professional references. 4‑panel drug screen. Meet regulatory requirements for pre‑employment screenings. Provide copy(s) of required New York State license(s)/certificate(s). Benefits Salary range: $96,406 – $122,265 per year.
